I'm failrly new to straight razor shaving (a little over a year) and have a number of vintage razors, including my Grandfather's and my wife's Great Grandfather's razors. They were both lovingly brought back to life by Max (Max Sprecher) and both are part of my regular rotation. These are your razors, but I would certainly THINK TWICE about cutting the blade down. I would suggest saving your money and then have Max, or another of the great pro's on here (there are quite of few), restore both razors. I think you'll be happier in the end. Just my two cents.

Before you do anything drastic, have a look at the wedge, it looks like it has slipped, the blade may be hitting that.

Indeed, those scales are junk. I think they decomposed even back in the day. I happened upon several sets of replacement scales back when. They are old, but not afflicted with the yellowing which accompanies the rot. I have one set left. They need some polishing. Shelf/drawer wear. Pm me if you want em!

Jordan, I will personally beat you with a wombat if you do not take Sharpton up on his offer. You have a true prize in your grasp, dont turn it into a booby prize.

Hey, are you muscling in on Carl's wombat assault turf now?
    ReardenSteel and MickR like this.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Agreed, they look well worth restoring and I would let an experienced person restore them.

Frame it and hang it up. It would be nice shave den decor.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?
