Thread: found in grandfather's garage!

so i found two razors today in my great grandfather's old garage. one is a dubl duck satinedge, and one is some kind of Weichsel brand. i have literally never even laid hands on a straight razor until TODAY, so i know absolutely nothing about them! that's why i didn't even clean that preservative stuff off of the blades, i'm not sure if i should, or how to, or anything.

I want everyone's opinion on these finds! are they nice razors (i've heard the DD is), are they valuable, what should i do with them?

Clean them up and use them! Once you get them honed of course.

Welcome to SRP. First things first, unfortunately SRP does not give valuations as they're subjective, but being they're family heirlooms, they're priceless to you. If you want to learn to shave with a straight razor, then you have definitely come to the right place, all you need to know is found here and the gentlemen here are always willing to help a new member get started. You may want to try and clean them up a bit with some elbow grease and a little polish first to see their real condition. Be careful, even if dull, razors can bite you. If salvageable, you may want to contact a member who offers restoration and honing services and go from there.

Okay. Thanks a lot for the quick responses guys! I'll clean them, and seek out someone to restore them a little, and i'll probably surprise my pawpaw by giving him these back all cleaned up! the thought of him using the same razors his dad used to use is awesome i'm only 18, and i dont even have enough facial hair to use one of these

You're never too young to start shaving the right way.

Probably made by someone else for a local retailer.

Both of those razors appear totally trashed and highly toxic. I am a trained and certified "Toxic Straight Razor Disposal Engineer." Please PM me for info to send razors for proper disposal immediately.

So thats not a known company? Hmmm. Now that i think about it, it does say Texas on the blade, and i live in Texas, so maybe it was some small business...
Does anyone recommend anyone specific for restoration?

Take a look in the "Classifieds" and click on "Member Services" and you'll see the various members who offer restoration services. If you would like to see some of their work, then check out the "Custom Builts & Restorations" and look for threads started by those members who offer their skill and expertise for restorations. If you get a good feeling from one, then contact the member through the PM system or by whatever means they wish to be contacted and go from there. I have had razors restored and or honed by various members here and have never been disappointed with their work/communication/fees. Good luck and keep us posted.
