Only for a little while. NY law prohibits CRombats ( Combat Ready Wombats )

I'm a little disappointed to hear the razor will be displayed and not used, but breathe a sigh of relief that it is not going to be manhandled! Just make sure the display is not in direct sunlight.

Yeah i was hoping he'd want to use it too, but he'll treasure it nonetheless! And it'll be indoors, away from sunlight

So be it. When the time comes that the razor is given back to you, of course, we're here to help if you need it.

I bet if he gets it in his hands, all ready to wipe away whiskers, he might feel the urge for a "once more for old times sake" and suddenly it wont be on display any more!

Displaying or using, just make sure you maintain it, and prevent any rusting or damage to the razors by ensuring you oil the steel and wipe clean after a month or so and re-apply (perhaps Rennaisance wax on the steel), as well as keeping the scales good by keeping them out of direct sunlight.
In my experience you may as well use the things you own and love, because regardless of what you do with them, they don't last forever. Things get damaged, lost or destroyed over time.

Renn wax is some amazing stuff, and it keeps longer than any oil. I think you can apply it 2x a year and be good. some folks even say 1x a year

My mom's insisting that we clean it ourselves and put it on sharptonn's scales. Surely someone who's never touched a SR can simply restore a vintage one by myself...?

Cleaning grease of a blade is not a restoration but it is easily done with some solvent & a rag.
I would however spend a few dollars on getting it re-pinned or practice pinning on some scrap timber or plastic first. Take a poll on how many guys have broken scales before assuming it's a piece of cake.
