Thanked: 1184Ha I never looked at the official list, just always used and thought when I saw SAD it meant soap. Maybe STAD would be better :<0) I think Ed is on the same page as me. I tried to coin one but it never flew. Maybe too long.
FAQAOAOA Frequently asked questions asked over and over again.
I had a couple of more but quickly forgotten :<0|Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I don't think they're vastly overrated, they are vastly overpriced, different thing !
In itself I think the two leather components are the best I've ever seen and used on a strop, the feedback is simply incredible. The cloth component was nice as well after it had been broken in. However, I simply hated the fact that there is no handle on that strop, at that price, there should be a decent handle on the Kanayama's.
In the end I sold the strop, because it was so frigging expensive and I was scared to scratch the leather.

Actually, no. Actually, two sides of the same coin. Most people go into denial when they find out that they have just spent a lot of money on something that really is not all that great.
Which is not to say that these strops are not great. They are, in a way, but as you say:
I was around when you guys traded recipes for the optimum washing powder/softener ratio. Bit like watching a Tupperware party. But, yes, Japanese shaving related things make people do strange things, because they are typically overpriced, dysfunctional, but come with more hype than export razors.
Personally, I would order a complete strop. SRD strops offer incredible value for money, but a Scrupleworks strop is just so much more beautiful.

Shell cordovan strops are not cheap no matter the brand. I find that the #3 kanayama represents good value.
As far as not having a handle, I actually prefer hanging strops that way.
Horses for courses.

Or maybe LPSAD Lather Producing Software Acquisition Disorder.
Sorry engine, just to expand on my last or so post, I have never looked at the official acronyms list, or if I did it was once about a year ago, I have always taken SAD to be soap AD unless the context makes it make more sense for it to be strop AD. So apologies for jumping on you earlier. However I still haven't revisited the acronyms list but I will take you on your word
sorry tangented there, i have just realized I have come up with a new acronym for soaps and creams in general, and not strops as per the discussion at hand.
As I don't really suffer from any AD's in the razor/shaving world I probably should have just stayed out of it . Unless you go with the "more than one is an AD" line of reasoning of course. Then I could be classed as having a very mild AD for most things (2 strops, 4 straights, 2 D/E's, 4 brushes, a small selection of soaps ( several of which were gifts) and one set of 5 hones)Last edited by edhewitt; 12-06-2014 at 03:24 PM.
