    Default Photos too large.

So I purchased an early Christmas gift for the girlfriend I got her this dope Sony 20 MP camera. Its a point and shoot instead of a DSLR or DLSR. (Don't even know what that is)

It takes one heck of a great snap shot. Unfortunately those photos are "Too large" for SRP and they take a ton of time to load if they do show up. Is there any way I can make them smaller so it will make uploading a photo of something quicker for me?

I really am sick of using 8 MP dirty Iphone camera photos to try and describe something.

On a side note I am not a very photo savvy guy and have never edited or changed the size of a photo before.

Someone come to my rescue please!

    Scott

I use G-Thumb or Gimp but I'm running Linux Mint. If you're running windows there may be a free photo management app, but I'm not aware of them. In G-thumb you open the app and go to the toolbar, click on tools, resize images. Pretty straight forward.

Linux is an operating system and it is free. An alternative to microsoft windows, or mac. My guess is your camera may have a CD with it with a photo program that you can load on your computer ? If it does it should have resizing as one of the features.

One way or the other, look in the manual for settings on your photo quality. The camera should be adjustable for ease of sending email and what not. So you can change the portrait, or whatever, setting for less pixels to facilitate posting on the internet. Hope that works, if not someone may be along who can give you something to go with.

You should be able to reduce the size of the image in Paint if you're on a PC. I wouldn't change the file quality settings in your camera.

Most all cameras come with the ability to "shoot" the photo with a less dense setting,,, it's in the menu section of your camera,,, just dial it in when you want smaller, less dense , photos

    or,,,,,

go to download.com & download a free photo editor, that will shrink the size for you,,, then you can post the photos,,,

As Hirlau Stated: Go into the menu setting of your camera. You can reduce the image size of your photographs. If you're only taking pictures to post on the web a 3 mpeg size file is sufficient. Also check into storing your pictures on one of the free online storage sites, for example photo bucket, picasa, etc. You upload your pictures to the storage site. When you post to SRP, you only list the URL address of your picture on the storage site. You do not have to upload your photograph to SRP.

An easy way to reduce the picture file size is to crop it. That is what I do most of the time. Just cut of the outer edges of the photo. The program that I usually use is Windows Photo Gallery that came with my computer. I have others that I will use if I need to adjust certain aspects of the photo, but that one seems to be the easiest for simple things.

The down side of that is when you delete your pictures off your file service they stop showing in your posts.
