And that leads to exactly my question...

There are some vendors who post in the vendor section and nowhere else--though some, not all, will occasionally post in xxxxxx of the whatever day section. If they are not buying banners and contribute nothing substantive (nor informative) in the forum, then why are they allowed to contribute to hawk their wares in the vendors section?

Just because they don't want to contribute should not matter. If the vendor rules require them to contribute, but they are not, then why are they allowed to remain vendors?

In my opinion they should be required to play or pay, or else go away.

Why, how does it being shown by a vendor or non-vendor affect it?
I'm really trying to understand what would be the purpose of that distinction - it seems that in this case the merit is entirely in what is shown regardless of if it were made for sale or not.

Of course, exaggerated the illustration with the sign, but that's just to make the point that I don't see the interaction between commercial interest or lack of it and the merit of a showcasing.

As I explained the only drawback I see is the danger of overcommercialization taking over and overshadowing interesting and substantial discussions, or even just helping people with their problems. But the gallery is still much smaller in size and traffic than the main sections, so it doesn't seem like an issue at the moment.

    I think I can answer

We go through the actual Vendor lists at certain times of the year

Then I compare the lists to posting
Then I have to send out E-mails/PM's to find out what happened before we just yank a badge which we have always thought was just plain rude

We try to keep things polite.

After I get a response back, we all decide whether the badges should stay or go so basically we agree in your sentiment that they should "Pay" or Go but it takes a bit of time to work through it all

Also to be really clear if anyone here thinks somebody is gaming the system fire a PM to one of us and we will look closer, at it.. Just understand that we have Mods across the world so when we all talk it takes days not hours for a discussion to happen

Well-explained, Glen! There is a lot that we out here don't know about how things are done, but that makes perfect sense.
As-always, My gratitude to all of the moderators and advisers for running as tight a ship as possible!

Is it a pirate ship? it would be pretty cool to think of the management team meeting in floppy knee High boots, stripey trousers, big baggy linen shirts, eye patches and bandanas whilst sporting interesting facial hair and swords.
