Thread: A Confused Citizen

This..is an incredibly, incredibly eye opening thread.
Since it seems to be within the rules...let me throw this out there...
I make razors. I'm actually a professional bladesmith (mostly high end kitchen knife based blades), who just recently discovered the joys of shaving with a straight razor (seriously, a month or so ago I had a 4" beard...no joke), and immediately started making them. I've fallen in love with the shaving community in general in many ways. I post on this forum and the other large shaving forum (I have friends at both), and have literally been tiptoeing around here while being involved in a very in depth post about hones that are local to me for a few days now, going over my posts with a fine tooth comb to make sure I'm not 'advertising' myself or my business. The last thing I want is for a moderator to have to do their completely donated highly thankless job, due to my actions.
So, with that out of the way...you'll know where my next question(s) come from.
If I understand this thread correctly, I can freely post my work in the appropriate section (Custom builds I assume?), as long as it is not 'currently' for sale? I would happily do you one better and only post work (and WIP's!! ANYONE whow knows me knows I love posting work in progress threads!) that is either already spoken for, already sold, or experimental and possibly up for a passaround to test it out.
Is it really that easy lol? I'm genuinely a contributor, so I don't see that as an issue. Once things settle I'd gladly also purchase whatever tags were necessary to be a vendor if that were required as well. I actually looked around quite a bit trying to find a section that contained rules for how a maker was supposed to conduct himself. Now I understand why I didn't find anything!!
Anyhow, if you could answer that for me I would be very appreciative! I have no problem not talking about anything I make if that's what it takes to stay within the rules...but it would be so much easier to share various aspects of my knowledge base if I didn't have that restriction.

Cris, please modify your bio to show where you are located. It can help in the learning process if you can connect with another member or two in your area. Mentors, Mods and senior members are all willing to sit down with you and go over the skills of shaving with a straight.
On the other matter, I'm sure one of the other Mods that have a strong interest in your area will come on board and can answer your questions."The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

I am am happy this was said. Really . I in general am pro artisan / craftsman and the like. I think folks that engage in these endeavours should be supported and given a chance to realize their love for art in the public eye and be judged purely on the merits of the work they do. I enjoy seeing independent makers full of love and enthusiasm for the craft bring forth their best. I do dislike marginalization and entities that want to consolidate a movement under a single banner such as " The Grooming Network" which just seems to want to monopolize on the hobby we all love.
Don't drink and shave!

Thanked: 1587Bottom line, IMO, is that we are about promoting - not exploiting- straight razors and associated stuff.
Having said that, there's no reason why genuinely talented peoples, and good vendors, cannot share and contribute to, and thereby potentially benefit from, our community too. It can be a win-win for everyone if done well.

But James, who said that they could not? I am genuinely confused by Razorfaust's and your reply. It is perfectly all right for vendors to contribute outside their designated commercial subfora under the current policy.
The real issue is that the current policy demands that members with a vested commercial interest must disclose this interest. At no cost, with no further obligations. Some of them refuse to do that. Which makes one wonder what their motives might be.

Thanked: 1587No, sorry I didn't mean they could not - I was just trying to summarise the stance.
