Thread: Offensive threads

Well, it's sort of pointless to discuss the offensiveness of certain threads in another thread. But, first, he didn't call them turds, but TURDS (and it was sort of funny, in a developmentally challenged way); second, when they go low, we go high. Right? I mean, this is a forum. You don't have to have a beer with everyone every evening. There are worse things in life than someone insulting random strangers. Let's all move on.

And I am the one who originally posted the thread and it was posted purely as a joke. Something that I read and thought was humorous. No insult intended.
If anyone took offense, I humbly apologize.
I don't take stuff like internet jokes or memes personally but I am finding out that some people do.
I am 100% OK with differing opinions and try my best to not offend anyone.
My best friends and I do not always agree on religion or politics but we still fish out of the same boat and our families dine together. I would like to consider the folks on SRP in the same vein and again, I apologize.

Thanked: 135You are incorrect. The thread in question is closed; I cannot comment there. That is why I brought it up here. You did not read my post or really don't care. Really, TURDS?
You are welcome to move on. I'll wait until the thread is no longer there. This sub-forum is also for suggestions. I had a suggestion.

Thanked: 228I understand Paulbuck feeling insulted and or offended. I can also understand Kelbro posting what he did and him feeling that he had posted in jest or, "tongue in cheek", shall we say. I do see both sides of this. In saying this, in my opinion, people need to lighten up and not take everything so seriously. We have become a people who are afraid to say pretty much anything because we may offend someone. Think I'm wrong? Try telling a co-worker they smell nice, or look nice, and you might be heading out the door with a look of confusion on your face, because you just got fired for insulting a co-worker. I know this is may seem to be an extreme example but it is what it is. Are we all going to need a, "safe place", where we are all wrapped up in cotton batting so we don't get our feelings hurt? I am not trying to insult or demean anyone, but if if someone is, please accept my humble apology. This is just something I have noticed that seems to be occurring more often than not. I also want to thank the moderators for everything they do. They have a tough job to do in keeping everyone on this forum on the up and up.

Thanked: 55Personally I think it is more "offensive" (I'm not really offended) to delete threads and over moderate particularly in the one sub-forum set up for this kind of discussion.
People ultimately self-moderate to whatever the cultural norm is for a particular forum if the moderators stay out of it except for extreme cases.
You can't have a subject like politics and then not allow people to speak their mind even if they call into question the other side's thinking. That's the nature of the beast.
Just make sure it doesn't get too personal and let the discussions flow. It works just about everywhere else and would work here as well.

I don't know about this really. Sometimes all you have to do is not look at a thread that is bothering you. Its like TV or radio don't like it, change the channel, Its a matter of choice really and I like choices. Many choices seem to be dwindling on this planet because it offends somebody. So be it lets all just hold hands and bore each other in agreement. Not much to learn there. On a lighter note I thank Gssixgun, Big Spendur, OCD Shaver and of course RobinK for driving a very entertaining thread

There's still an active thread where we all were called a lot worse. The expletives have been deleted, but the intent is still there.
I believe in the Constitution and I will stand by the Constitution, whether or not offense has been felt. Real life in the real world
doesn't abide by one person's sensibility. If you don't like something, then move on. We all have to deal with things we disagree
with. I don't like certain posts on FB, but I'm not going to call for censorship. There are threads on this forum that I avoid, I don't
call for censorship. In fact, I'm offended by this thread and I'm not calling for censorship.Rog
