Thanked: 135Offensive threads
Hello,
I have a suggestion. If there is an offensive post on this forum, regardless of the subforum, and it has been flagged as offensive/inappropriate/unwarranted/whatever and is closed; please remove it altogether. Just closing it and leaving it there for all to see is not right.
When I decide to browse the Conversation sub-forum I don't want to be reminded one of the 'gentlemen' here calls my wife, myself and my friends a piece of crap.
Remove it.
Thank you,
Paul

If you find a post offensive go to the bottom of the text block and click on the triangle icon with the exclamation point. This brings up a report form in which you can voice your complaint and that will be emailed to all moderators and admins. A thread will automatically be started in the moderator forum where the team will assess the complaint and the offending post for rule violation. If it is not within the rules the post will be deleted, and the member may or may not be notified depending on the circumstances.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

In many cases the mod team does delete the reported post. If the post hasn't been reported it may be overlooked. The individual moderators don't see every post in every thread. In the case of closed threads, if the post hasn't been singled out with a report, it may go unnoticed. OTOH, it may have been decided to leave it as is. Ordinarily it is a team effort. Moderators don't usually act unilaterally, without a team decision.

The thread reads closed for moderator review. In my experience it will either be reopened or it will eventually go away. I usually ignore them.

Thanked: 13249I think it would REALLY help here if we knew what post in what thread
If you don't want to say, no prob just pick any one of us and fire a pm to us and we will at least take a look at it
We cannot make a commitment to change it since we work as a team, but we can promise to at least look at it
Thanks

I feel that the traditional approach of closing the thread for review and, if necessary, removing individual offensive posts, has worked well enough in the past. Sometimes things are said in the heat of the moment, people regret it - but that doesn't necessarily mean that the entire thread is offensive. YMMV.

Flag the post! You'll be brought to a window that you can express your concern over it. The mods then look at it and decide. They do a good job at keeping the forum clean.
You can always send a pm to mods too about stuff like that.
Yesterday I was greatly offended by a truly hurtful, disgusting, racist post. I flagged it, private messaged a few mods and the post was taken down promptly.
Problem is even after the posts have been removed the damage is done and you most likely will have lost all respect for the person who made the comment
All you can do is flag it and message a mod. They will look after it. That's what they are here for.
