That's not the part that bothers me. Offensive post identified, offensive post removed, Im ok with that part. I am not OK with a lengthy discussion maybe somewhat heated but generally entertaining torpedoed because one post offended someone. This is to me is a complete disregard to the other participating posters research, thought, opinions and time that went into before mentioned thread. I cant imagine most folks enjoy seeing all the stuff they wrote vaporize. I think its unfortunate.

Thanked: 55It strikes me as a big too controlling as well. With all due respect to the moderators and administrators, it is the content of posts that keeps people coming back to a discussion forum.
When all that just disappears it doesn't do much to promote a discussion forum.

This is your point of view & I understand it completely. It makes since from an individual's standpoint. If I were in your position from the point of membership, I may very well feel the same as you do.
But,,,,,,,
Let me tell you something that you are not aware of, but I cannot discuss it all.
Since the primary thread in question started, the night of the election, discussion began in the Moderator side of the forum. This section is accessible only to the moderators, site administrators and the site owners. For the last "5" days there has been conversation going on that was so intense, supporting more that just "2" different points of view, that friendships of many years were strained and tested, phone calls across the Country took place, face to face meetings took place. Oh my friends, you have no idea how much thought & time was consumed to reach a conclusion that was best for "all". Did we accomplish our goal to produce the best thought out path,,,I don't know.
Here is what I do know. We are a shaving forum in primary; any other topic discussed here is icing on the cake. I come here to learn shaving, talk to men from foreign lands that I will never see, to get away from the politics & problems of my ordinary life. Along the way I have made friends that I have never seen their face. If I get a call from one of them for help, my answer to them will be, "I'm rolling,,,". I don't care who my friend voted for. Friends are hard to grow, I don't have many.
Straight Razor Place is the ship responsible for this; I'll be damned before I will let her take on water while we fight over politics, religion or even guns.

I understand that. I understand folks cant keep personal feelings out of a conversation without making a judgement about those opinions. As I said its unfortunate. A discussion can be contrary or heated at times but it doesn't have to be personal in nature. Its just that a conversation. Shame folks have to lose their mind over it. I understand thanks for the heads up. Ill shut up now lol.

Thanked: 481With regard to the OP's complaint, to be honest I'm surprised that thread wasn't deleted the same moment it was locked. Sure the OP was intended as a light hearted tongue in cheek jab, but it wasn't hard to see how that might be received as an insult. And beyond that, it didn't take the thread long at all to devolve into a bunch of direct personal pot shots.
As for the other thread, I don't see it as over moderation. I've seen it locked and reopened multiple times. Each successive time it was reopened was a little bit surprising, because it seemed to be going further and further over the line as time drew on. It would get reigned in for a few days, maybe even a week or two. But then it would go right back down the gutter. If anything I'd say I'm more surprised that decisive action wasn't taken sooner on that one as well.
Other forums I've crawled, that thread wouldn't have even raised a brow. The worst in it was completely tame by those forum's standards. Some of them didn't even have standards. Or limits. But SRP has made it abundantly clear it isn't one of 'those' forums. I've got no complaints with the moderation staff running a tighter ship here.

I thank the mods for what they do, I know it's not easy.
One forum I belong to has a section for discussions like those posted. It is closed for the most part, as unless you subscribe to it you can't see it.
The Admins said if you subscribe to it and complain about anything, other than personal attacks, you're going to get the brunt of what is handed out. After all you chose to go into that sub-forum.
Just mentioning this, that's allLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz
