I recollect the last time I stopped by here yall were going through this same kind of thing. Or close to it anyway. Seems a mite sad when a group of growed up men go to whining when they don't get their own way. This aint hard to figure out boys. Seems ok to talk about lots of stuff without settin the nitrogliceren on the edge of a fire and expectin it not to explode when it gets hot. Simple fellas. Put the nitro back in the shed and leave it there. If ya make it explode in someones ear then ya done lost a friend dont ya know. His friend aint gonna like ya much neither. Leave the politics and such to those whut likes to waller in the manure. Just take Joe and Lynn's comments as gospel. Aint no trick to that.

I for one will visit much less if topics like religion and politics are off limits.

Do we remember Socrates Apology because it was about motorcycles ?

Cicero for his letters to Marcus about how to get a booger out from the baby's nose?

These things are the substance of what makes us human.

These are the topics which seperate the intellectual wheat from the chaff.

    Small minds discuss people.
    Average minds discuss events.
    Great minds discuss ideas.

I enjoy the discussion of ideas because it allows me to learn and improve myself.

Am I to believe that we are to be denied the opportunity to ponder the very ideals and morals which continually shape our lives?

I say that if someone has a problem, deal with them.

To put limits above and beyond those normally implied by the rules of a polite society is to muzzle the many and pander to the few.

This " PC " trend in our culture is a disease.
    IT IS A CANCER !!!

A man can no longer speak his mind for fear of offending someone.

Not every- ONE no, it's some- ONE

One person who can exert control over the majority simply by screaming bloody murder.

If you take away what is perceived as offensive now, then peoples "tolerance level" will change and then it will be the next most offensive thing, then the next, until there is nothing left.

Soon we won't be able to say " What does that have to do with the price of tea in China" because it involves global economics, a topic that cannot be breached without involving geo-politics.
Or OMG because it is religion related.

If it starts it won't stop.

If you don't believe me then go and try to say the UNDER GOD part of the POA in school, or post the Ten Commandments somewhere public.

You know it's true, because it's about to happen here.

I have struggled my whole life to fit in, or at least pass for normal.

I have no interest in belonging to a group who would change the rules in an attempt to make the misfits belong.

There is a big difference between being politically correct and simply being respectful. I highly doubt there will be any large philosophical gain or great gift to humanity by saying "christianity sucks", "youre an asshole", "democrats are stuipd" or "I hate the English", etc. If you feel that any additional rules or guidelines stifle your creativity or your contribution to humanity, than you are free not to post in the OT section, it is just that simple.

OK folks, as Bill Maher says on his TV show, it's time for New Rules

See the announcements, et al and I'll have the OT forum restored in a short while.

This thread is now closed as there's nothing more to discuss regarding the closing. If you want to discuss the reopening, please start a new thread in this forum.
