Unfortunately, it seem every time a moderator steps in on a topic we get the censorship flag thrown at us. As a moderator, most of the time we're in a no-win situation. The typical routine has been someone complains about a topic, we step in and intervene.

The truth is, we were actually doing pretty well policing ourselves.
I agree. By and large, things work themselves out much better now than several months or a year ago. Just another reason why I try to stay out of topics as a mod. People have had huge tiffs in the past, only to either publicly or privately resolve them.

Default On the Off Topic topic

    How are our moderators selected?

I can understand if the moderators want to slim down the forum to make their job easier ---that's an angle I never really consider.

It isn't that our job is particularly difficult. Stepping in at the right moment is the hard part. There have been numerous times I hit the reply button, typed something, then backed out. Most solutions on SRP sort themselves out. It's just people too often treat each other badly while pretending to work stuff out.

    Jordan,
You have actually changed my opinion on this a bit. I think we should all behave well but if one does not, gets in a huff and leaves, as you say, so be it. I do miss that some very experienced guys have gone down this same road, had a blowup over an off topic thread, picked up their marbles and went home. Now that I think more about it, their actions say a lot about them. They dish out whatever they want but when someone dishes back off they go. On can't always have it their way. (of course it's Lynn's house so he can , and I would in mine)
I do still think there are specific places on the net one can go for many of these topics but again, we do have a choice not to read them at all.

Yes, I don't know. I also see the point that the mods shouldn't have to feel like school teachers. As in everything, there's a balance somewhere...
