Just making sure I understand correctly... All of my previous posts and PMs are forever gone now? There will be no restore of all the stuff lost? Right?

Haven't counted how many I lost. I am glad to see the site back up though. I would have had to keep all this stuff I have for the give away. OK I'm Just Kidding. I knew Joe and David could do it. these two guys are the greatest.

I lost close to 225 posts as well...no biggy though, I figure that it's just a small thing. What I'm really sad about is loosing some of the great threads, like the Newbie Honing Experiment, Stropping Speed experiment, and the recent threads on razor restoration and pin selection.
Boo-Urns!

To answer your questions...
- AFAIK, the problem was not due to any outside influences (ie, a hacker or a virus). The server was supposedly a brand new machine brought on-line back in Oct. when our Host moved our account to ThePlanet's data center (which, btw, claims to be the largest privately held dedicated server host in the world... they maintain in excess of 26,000 servers.) The attachment below is just a portion of one of the many isles in their facility.
- Our server is Unix based.
- As I understand it, there were more recent backups, but they were corrupt.
