Thread: New members on B/S/T forum

It wasn't you. There were two threads at issue. One situation has resolved to everyone's satisfaction. The other - a review - brought up some issues about "reviews" versus experience. Someone with little experience took the position of an expert when they shouldn't have.
Either way, this community is one of the nicest I've been around - helping newbies to an extreme that I honestly haven't seen anywhere outside of a church... (That's a complement, btw.)Last edited by ByronTodd; 02-07-2008 at 11:02 PM. Reason: More information...

I have one suggestion on this bst forum
I have a suggestion to throw out there.. Kind of like ebay feedback. kind of...
Add a review thread for buyer/ seller responses after the transaction is completed.
for example, both parties satisfied with listing and transaction.
Feedback would have to be civil and moderated but would help newbies to decide who they would like to deal with. No numbers or a score just a feedback from both parties buyer and seller by member name in the thread. Kind of in one spot so you dont have to sift through alot of threads. Especially in the site gets big again and doest not crash for awhile.
Just a suggestion

I also agree that this is the nicest site to be a member of.

In full agreement with Tony and gssixgun.
Everyone can easily see a members post count and join date. Let's assume each member is smart enough to "police" himself...
The older members sometimes do post their opinions on a "good or bad" deal. I also see this as useful (especially to the new guys/girls) as long as the posts are to the point and civil. I strongly disagree w any ban or limitation on any member's opinion. No "improvements" in those areas are really needed, IMO.
This idea sounds like it's worth considering.

We're Men...
Ok, first of all, I want my post count back to where it was before the crash. Here I was, neck and neck with FIReSTaRT's count and BAM!!! gone...
Seriously though, I think the key to this site and what separates it from a lot of them, is that we play by the "man rules." There are moderators that do an excellent job and the rest of us police our own fairly well. If some knucklehead decides to make an ass out of himself and oh, I dont know say...post a few reviews as if he were Lynn Abrams' inspiration, he is free to do so. The thing is, if he is not well known around these parts, he should expect to be challanged on his view or his honing ability or what ever the case might be. My point being, give a new guy who is selling something a chance to explain himself, he might have something we all can't live without. IF he cant adequately provide assurance to the masses that he is worth the risk, we'll all know it and he'll get treated accordingly. Wolves can always sniff out the sick, lame, or lazy... At that point a moderator can make the determination to remove the post or what ever he deems neccessary. I personally like the anonymous moderator idea. You post a zeepk for sale "shave ready" stand by for BIG BROTHER to put your sale in the correct perspecive. There is no need to set limits or benchmarks, man rules apply and we all enforce them. If that bothers you, you may want to go back to machIII's to protect that thin skin...
Seriously... I do want my post count restored....all 2991 of them... but if thats too much trouble, I'd take the 30 or 50 more that I rate

Thanked: 335The relaxed or minimal rule endorsers here are right. There is nothing to be gained by trying to go sphincter to sphincter with Badger and Blade for moderator control. Buyers need to use a reasonable measure of "caveat emptor" in their purchasing. Sellers who transgress can always be cut off at the knees by those exposing their sins, if true sins they be, or by having the final resort of a moderator tripped guillotine remove their erring parts from our midst.

Thanked: 32A number of other forums I belong to that have BST sections also have a feedback section. If you buy, sell or trade with someone you leave a comment in their feeback thread to say how the deal went. Before you think about buying from someone you check their feedback thread to make sure they don't have a history of ripping someone off. Its simple but it seems to work for the most part.

I've seen something called iTrader that integrates with bulletin boards - you have to post the thread of the sale (and you must have participated in the thread) and it then allows you to post a positive or negative experience that others can review. Then each member has in their information area an iTrader number.

+1 I think Shaun and Bruce summed it up pretty well.
Guys, I would also add here that the function of SRP is to provide a community to discuss, learn, etc. about str8 shaving, NOT to be a marketplace.
The BST forum is provided as a convenience for occasional buying and selling between members... it is NOT intended to provide sellers an alternative to eBay or traditional website storefronts. Those attempting to run their "business" in our BST forum might do well to consider using our classifieds section or other venues .
