New members on B/S/T forum
A couple of times newly registered members' first post is in the B/S/T forum. B&B have a policy that you can only post in the B/S/T forum after you have posted in other forums before. Buying from members has the added extra that you buy of someone you know to some extent, whose expertise you can "check" by reading their other posts. IMHO SRP should not become a free auction site or a place where people can easily sell their wares at no cost at all without contributing to the other forums.

I am kind of thinking that this would be useful before starting threads in the reviews section also!

Thanked: 22Yes I agree with this, I have just finished reading about a dozen review threads made by a NooB who does not seem to have made posts anywhere other than his own review threads.
I believe there is a way. I am a member of a forum with strict status rules for certain areas I.E you can't post in off topic threads until you have made 100 posts, other parts of the forum you need to have been a member for x amount of time and made x amount of posts before getting permissions to post.
I think this would be good for both the review and BST forums. Simply because IMO why would I listen or trust the reviews of someone with very few post count and only 3 or 4 days as a member, what do they base their experience on etc.
Azjoe should be able to look into this and keep us updated.

Sorry, I want to make sure I'm clear on what I said before, is ther an ability to allow people with no posts to post on an existing bst thread (newbies posting "pm sent") but not allow new threads. I'm only marginally familiar with forum coding and am not sure if it's an option.) Another concern is that a lot of new folks make wtb posts looking for a first straight.

Thanked: 22If I've understood your question correctly.... Yes there is a way to prevent "any" posts being made, which means a post such as "PM sent" wouldn't be able to be made AFIK.
My answer is based on being a member of a forum with such imposed restrictions. Its kinda like a safety feature, where you get to know the person first.

I completely understand the wanting to limit sellers to only established people. However I am worried about newbies who would like to put up a wtb or wtt or a first straight.
I myself only a few weeks ago got my first straight razor from posting a wtt in that section of the forums, so I'm a bit hesitant to endorse a limitation on posting a thread in that forum. If anything I'd suggest spinning off the for sale part into another forum and keeping a separate wtb/t open to all. Otherwise I could see a lot of "want to buy a first straight" posts in general. If it were something like this I'd love to see it as then I know that I'm only buying from sellers that are established in a reputable community. If not I think it might only make the whole process more daunting to the newcomer resulting in more people buying ebay specials and wondering why they can't shave with them.
Just my thoughts on it.Last edited by Nickelking; 02-03-2008 at 12:45 PM.
