Thanked: 41David, you don't have to defend yourself or Lynn. I don't believe anyone here thinks that you guys are anything but upstanding. That being said please look at this quote by you in this thread:
"While I don't think it'll catch 100% of everything. I think it'll help.. And the revenue generated can go to offset server growth and software purchases.. It's gonna be time to upgrade to a full server soon. The damn site just keeps growing!"

I'd support a fee for anyone with less than 10 posts, but come on, some people just don't post much! I've been here for months and I haven't even broken 100! Why punish new non-talkative members like me? =)

It seems you have me incorrectly flagged. I apologise. I must have posted rashly. You're completely correct and as long as there continue to be reputable transactions there's no need to change a thing. I didn't mean to suggest that we should start policing today. David asked our opinion about a hypothetical situation with the Classifieds and I gave him mine. He's just being smart again. He knows that even markets have rules.
The classifieds are humming right now, but this has not always been the case. People complained about closing BST, but it seems to me there have been fewer complaints since, certainly from the mods anyway. If there must be a change to prevent sales like which Utopian so eloquently described as those, "most likely to victimize new members", I don't think that a pay option is the best. I believe a review of the 'thanks' I have given to KenS and mkevenson's posts before posting myself can attest to that. To prevent imminent abuse of the good thing we've got. I should have said that I would support mod review as a screening method for n00b whether that be determined as functionally the join date or the post count. That's still open market, if we can trust our mods.
And huntmol is totally correct as well of course. Let's not all turn into anti-post-countists now. But David has already clarified that.
See how easy it is for me to get to 7,133 posts?
X
PS Why doesn't the "Add to Reputation" button do anything any more?

What he said. If we are going to have limitations, they should be non-monetary. I would rather not see main-site features depending on money.
And the limitations could be waived if a mod thinks so.
People like Tim Zowada or Mike Blue... for example, who don't post massive amounts, but who are among the best in their field.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

as a newbie, I have AD so I only buy
but when i do buy, I do may homework, try to make informed purchases, and when looking at the seller, I usually put more stock into his "join date" as opposed to post count. The reason being, I have seen members who have been on the board a month with 400+ posts
I would also like to comment on integrity, I have made a number of purchases in the last 6 months, both here and on other boards, when using the term "shave ready" it appears only SRP members know what that means, out of 20+ razors bought on SRP only 1 has not been shave ready advertised, whereas on another board, the opposite has been true and only 1 or 2 were actually "shave ready" so overall I have found the ingtegrity of the members here absolutlety outstanding !!
so to get back to the OP, as a rookie I think that charging would make it seem like ebay, and I probably would not have much confidence in the process, if i was going to set a policy, it would be 100 posts, and 6 months membership, that way if a guy has been a member here 6 months, he will likely have enough knowledge to be minimally trusted

I think it's reasonable to charge all members to post classifieds. Given there was/is a recent debate about charging for sections of the website with a view to raising funds to pay for the hosting etc. I feel it is fine to charge for classifieds regardless of how many post a person has made.
I don't agree with charging for anything else though as I feel this would change the focus and original purpose of the group. Just my two penneth.
