Thanked: 363Seniority. No bloated egos, no chest thumping, no showing off. We are here because we enjoy the community, and share what we know, without any need for getting a pat on the back from users we later rip off by selling them overpriced items. We just give.
Lynn has created a great air around him, a place of learning, and helpfulness, and we all feel it and share it. It always starts from the top down. So thanks Lynn. What's great is everyone who joins appreciates this attitude of learning and acceptance and adds to it.
To me though personally, the real reason I come is for the characters I'll name a few
Lee, Glenn, Robin, Gugi, Dylan, Al, Max, Markavery etc...
These guys all make me laugh in the chat and in their posts atleast once a week, and that's what makes it worthwhile to me, chatting with a good group of guys who enjoy the same hobby as me.
I'm the guy who's rough around the edges, bull in a china shop so to speak. This is what I bring, that NY/NJ attitude that everyone loves...
Lee feel free to correct my diction or spelling..lol
Keep this place going for years to come.
Cheers

Family
It's similar to an open family atmosphere. As stated earlier this is something a father would have tought his son back in the day. New members "sons" come in and the senior members acting in a "fatherly" role share their knowledge in an informative, educational, entertaining manner that makes learning this craft and enjoyable endeavor.

What's Special About SRP?
Hello everyone:
I have lived in a medley of colorful neighborhoods.
Yet none has offered the gentleman his valet, a library for his mind, a classroom for his craft, a soap box for his knowledge, and a cozy saloon for his palate.
None that is except the neighborhood called Straight Razor Place.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1371I'm here 'cause chicks dig the SRP guys.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Well, yeah, there are other sites dedicated to wet shaving but the name says it all. This the "Straight Razor Place"... why settle for less ?
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

+1 for just about everything I have read on this thread. The only thing I can add is my personal experience. When I started Str8 shaving I was looking to cut cost of disposable + can garbage. My job cut us down to 32 hours a week (yes I liked the idea of using vintage type tools for shaving but that was just a plus).
When I stumbled on this site I was instantly welcomed and encouraged. I think I would have given up if it were not for SRP and the people here. I got good advice, resources, and a good deal on my first razor not to mention constant support from the seller on its use. When I misused the razor (bad stropping, bad habits, etc.) he re-honed it along with some friendly chastising about what I was doing wrong. He got me back on track along with lots of other encouraging feedback.
And when I was at my lowest point financially last year a member took another razor and restored it pro-bono! You don't find guys like that anywhere else. I have seen several newbies who expressed money problems being offered free assistance. But it's not about getting something for free its about a group of people who are passionate and caring enough to offer to help.
Finally, (though there is more if I think about it) there is an attitude that celebrates uniqueness/individuality. There are guys here who talk about high dollar supplies, razors, strops I will never even see much less use. Then there are guys who say, (I don't remember who) "I'm experimenting with minimalism..." like stropping with folded newspaper. And the awesome thing about both is that I don't feel put-down because I identify more with newspaper guy then damascus steel guy. And both would take the time to talk with me here. Nobody cares if you just scratch the surface of str8 shaving or go all the way into restoring and making your own supplies. I alway feel, no matter how far I go, that I will be encouraged, advised (sometimes chastised) and assisted every step of the way with little or no intimidating attitudes or comments.
Anyway...that's what keeps me coming back!

cause we're one big family
and like any family we have our moments of laughter, disagreements, conversations, wisdom, quarrels,..
but even more important. we all share the same passion.
