Thanked: 1371Buying stock in Gillette (Proctor & Gamble) is probably a safe long term investment. By the context I'm guessing that you mean not supporting IRC is bad...
I understand IRC being old school, and I understand that it probably allows more access options for people than any other chat system. It just seems that it requires users to be more "techy" than any other chat that I've used.
The problem is when using Pidgin portable. SSL is turned off, and the server it's pointed to is irc.freenode.net.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Thanked: 335Hogla...
"For those of you who shave hard drives, drive on!"
A poor attempt at playing with words where those with an ability to understand highly technical messages such as those referred to in the OP and make the necesary adjustments to hard/soft ware, where needed, to extricate themselves from the difficult positions which those non-cognoscenti of us will be condemned to continue to flail about in the mire of frustration, seemingly forever.

What client are you using?
SASL authentication is only required on some nets.
If you tell me what client you are using I will tell you the configuration you need to change to get it to work.
Right of the bat, I'd change the server to irc.freenode.net and see if that makes this go away.
For those who are dieing to find out what SASL is, it is authentication using a certificate of authority (CA) to encrypt communications between the client and server. Freenode upgraded to ircd-seven some time ago and this is an option. Emphasis in option, so you needn't authenticate with a CA - which you'd have to download and some other shyte that is really annoying to the non-geeks.
I'm not encrypting, using pidgin, and connect without problems.
