Hit the rack, Randy.

This indeed is a fabulous site. I too am grateful for all the time, effort and expense that goes into keeping it alive. Any objection I have is not to the need for bringing in revenue to support the site, it is rather with the methodology of doing so. I simply object to the use of a user's posts and inserting links into it as a chosen method.
As usual Cangooner, you are very rational and well spoken. Thank you for your input.

Thanked: 983Sometimes it's just best to agree to disagree, drop the subject and get on with enjoying the mutually agreeable things. No-one ever thinks worse of anyone who does that. I've had one or two posts 'moderated' and a few suggestions to self moderate my posts. I'm fine with that. I do tend to type what I think and how I speak. Sometimes that's misconstrued in the context of text. I don't hold to hard feelings over it. I just accept it and move on. I soon forget about it when I do. Has nothing to do with having links added into my posts, but, just my way of saying smile and get on with life. If it don't kill you, learn from it and let it make you a stronger, better person.

Man I remember the first time I gave a TEAM member the report I slaved on and she went ahead and edited it and then submitted it without my consent... man was I mad! I thought the changes changed the whole report! How on earth could she have done that?
I approached her in a manor that could have been considered aggressive, and she responded in like form. I thought the world was ending!
After a day or so, and after the boss gave us high praise for our work and the report it generated, I got to thinking about my reaction. We were on the same Team and I forgot that. Her actions were intended to help - nothing more. Not everything goes smoothly, and not everyone has to feel the same way about issues as I do... it was a powerful experience in that I learnt a great deal about myself on that project.
This thread reminds me of that experience.David

Don't be so easily offended.
We have a small team doing a lot of work.
They cannot start a discussion for every small thing they are trying out, and inform 40000 members that there might be a temporary effect.
If you've been here a lot, you know that we typically don't edit or censor parts of posts. However, if you are really offended that we have the right and the ability to do so, then you should probably unplug your internet connection because the same applies to every single site you are a member of.
And don't complain about abuse of power. First of all we didn't abuse our power because it is within our rights to do what we did (you agreed to it when you signed up) but more importantly: it's not like we are modifying content or censoring stuff. We ran an experiment with a module to see how it worked and what it could do.
Abuse of power would entail violating agreements in ways specifically prohibited. If the terms of service are really morally reprehensible to you, then don't agree to them. If we say up front that we have the right to do X, and you say 'ok, fine' and then we do X... where is the abuse?Last edited by Bruno; 10-12-2012 at 10:19 AM.
