Thanked: 33Stirling Soap Company
I just got a puck of shaving soap and two bath soaps from Stirling Soap Company. I didn't find any reviews or mention of them here, so I thought I would share my experience.
I ordered these products on Sunday. I came across their site by chance. The prices were great, its home made, so I said what the heck. It arrived in just two days!!! Right off the bat, an A+ for service. To my amazement, a third full bar of bath soap was thrown in for free. So to me, that's an A+++. I ordered a bar of grapefruit for me, and a vegan oatmeal and Shea butter for my wife (smells great). Included was a bar of vegan strawberry, which I'm sure my wife will also like. I did not use the bath soaps, so I have nothing to share from there.
The shaving soap I purchased was cumin and orange. Big puck. Only complaint is that it didn't fit into any of my shaving mugs or bowls. I ended up sticking into a larger sized coffee mug the car dealership gave me. So far, so good.
The scent is AWESOME! Very peppery. I got a great lather going after what I consider some user errors. I started out a bit dry, but then added a bit too much water, as it got a bit runny. Loaded up a wee bit more soap and achieved a perfect lather. I'm not experienced enough to give "scores". I have used a ton of products, both what I would consider "retail" (TOBS, AoS), and "hand made" (Mikes Natural, Al's), and the list goes on from both. However, I've only been wetshaving for about a year and a half, so I will leave the scoring to the pros. But I will say that I achieved a thick, long lasting lather that compared to my other favorites. It gave great cushion, and great glide. I will note that I did also apply AoS lemon pre shave oil, so YMMV.
The scent lingered a bit. My bathroom actually still smells like cumin an hour or so later. No irritation to speak of, but I also don't have sensitive skin. No bumps, rashes or anything else. Made for a very smooth, comfortable shave.
So in short, I am VERY pleased with the service. The shaving soap gave a great lather, great scent, and great shave. I use the big names too, and TOBS Grapefruit may forever be my favorite cream. But this soap is of very highquality. I strongly recommend giving it a go, especially for the service you get at those prices. I always want to support the hard working home small business folks. The idea of someone toiling in their shop, experimenting, failing, tweaking, all in an effort to produce a high quality product to please the customer....now that is truly something special. I am a happy customer after one shave, and will certainly do business with them again.Last edited by EdG; 07-24-2013 at 04:19 AM.

cumin and orange...my curiosity is peaked.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 33They do have some cool sounding scents. I haven't seen cumin in many soaps, so that was definitely the first I had to try. The black cherry is also unique. I'm glad that someone else is also having a good experience.

I picked up my first puck of Stirling Saturday at the Post Office. I had my first shave with it this morning. I got the new Margaritas in the Arctic scent. It smells great and the menthol blast is great for south Texas in August! I put a little hot water on the top of the puck while I showered. I lathered it on the puck using a damp brush (Omega 10066 Boar) and adding a little water as needed. I got a great lather in about 2 minutes, even with my ROCK HARD water. I had an excellent shave that left my face feeling hydrated and conditioned. I did figure out right away that I need to form the puck into my bowl so "good stuff" does not escape over the edge of the puck. FYI-Rod is great to deal with too!

Looks interesting. Pardon the pun but I am a die hard fan of Mitchells Wool Fat but I started out with a local soap makers shaving pucks. She uses goats milk as a base. Interesting but not a great lather to speak of. If you ever give goats milk soap a try remember what she told me. Before use us an old toothbrush and scrub the heck out of the surface. Something about a scum layer that forms and goes away after you start using it.
Going to look up Stirling Soap. Hope they have unscented. I have a lousy sense of smell and scents are a loss for me in general.

Today was my second day shaving with the Stirling Margaritas in the ARCTIC soap. It is well named, the menthol is just right, and it fills the room with the refreshing aroma of freshly squeezed lime. It lathered up even easier today after “squishing” the puck into my bowl. This keeps all the lather on the top and working. I have south Texas ROCK hard water that is very fussy to lather with. Stirling is as easy as any soap I have used to date. It gave me a smooth, slick, cushioned, and conditioned shave. Nick and burn free. I will be ordering more………

Thanked: 4Tried the Anise today. I face lathered and it was amazing. If they all work like this, I will have found my soap. I can't wait to try the Scots Pine next.

I just re-ordered my MITA (Margaritas in the Arctic) and also ordered a puck of Scots Pine too. Rod has a 50% off sale on some of his bath soaps so I HAD to order a couple. I got bars of Pig Trail and Ozark Mountain. As usual, Rod is great to deal with...........

You enabling so-and-sos! After reading the raves I gave in and ordered a few Stirling soaps, which arrived yesterday. Today I used the Lime bar soap and the Margaritas shave soap. Very nice.
I like the products and I find I'm also well-aligned with their eco-friendly policies. Their pricing also encourages exploration (the old "if I'm paying for shipping anyway, I might as well pick up a couple of extra things" thinking) which I did.
The only downside is that I broke my vow not to buy more shaving soaps until I'd used up at least a couple of my enormous existing selection. Now I have to find a whole bunch of containers for my new goodies...
