Thread: Shave Den's Permanent Residents
-

Soaps,
various QED flavors I've had for years when I got on a soap kick MWF, Williams
Creams,
when I had them it was Castle Forbes and another the name of which I've forgotten. Couldn't have been very important.
I'm too cheap to buy more creams so I'll use the soaps I have until I run out and then .......... who knows ?Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I think there are so many good soaps on the market now I could give up any one soap and not really miss it. But I'd feel bad if it was Oxford & Cambridge, lol.

Hello Rob,
Thank you for your thoughts. It has been a while since we've chatted.
The thread is not meant to promote agreement or disagreement, since personal taste, which also includes what each person's skin will tolerate and how it will benefit from a certain product, is meant to explore each person's preferences in soaps and creams without denigrating another person's choices for permanent residents in the shave.
I hope all the gentlemen joining in the conversation will consider the thread's aim: in personal preference, there are no right or wrong shave den permanent residents. For instance, I like St. James of London quite a bit — I think it's a great cream — but something in the cream irritates my skin and I cannot use it regularly. It is not the cream's fault, in this case, but mine for my blasted ultra sensitive skin.
So . . .
If gentlemen misbehave and start a fight, I will call upon the formidable Assyrian infantry and the blazing squadrons of war chariots to subdue the culprits — or something like that.
Stay well, my friend.

There are a couple of brands that keep recurring. It seems the cream does rise to the top.

I prefer hard soaps. The only two I have been constantly replenishing are those by Meißner Tremonia and Martin de Candre. If this continues for a few more years, they will be granted full citizenship in my bathroom.
I do like Pennhaligons Bayolea, but it only has a workers visa for the time being.
As for creams, Castle Forbes and Baume.be don't need a visa.
PAA was denied entry and summarily deported at the border due to its criminal history. My bathroom is very strict.Last edited by Badgister; 11-08-2015 at 12:05 AM.

MDC either flavor
Saponifico Varisno
Castle Forbes
Tabac
These are the ones that stay soap or cream, the rest were given a fair chance. The artisanal are no longer in my shave den and the M&T did not make it
If I had to I think the Institute Karitte might stay but the 4 I'm down to after 50-60 soaps creams and tubes and whatever have been given away or the dog has used. Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

I prefer creams, but also enjoy soaps.
Creams:
Baume.be--This has been my favorite since the first time I tried it.
Xpec--One of Obie's previous posts got me to try it. Great lather and fantastic scent.
Castle Forbes--Another excellent lather, I like both the Lime and Sandalwood.
Soaps:
Martin de Condre Fougere--Great lather and scent, not a fan of Lavender
Mitchell's Wool Fat--Not a fan of the scent, but I get a great shave every time I use it
Saponificio Varesino--I have no idea how to pronounce the name, but wonderful lather once I learned how to use it
Meissner & Tremonia Pink Grapefruit--Pleasant scent and great lather

Some really great choices here as permanent residents.
Unfortunately though, most of them are very hard to come by in this far flung corner of Africa so we make do with the more mundane run of the mill soaps which our local suppliers import.Tony

Thug, Is the Williams shaving soap stick still available in South Africa? It's apparently a different formula, and rose scented, than the Williams Mug Soap sold in North America. A member here at SRP did a favorable review so I was wondering if it had a following in your country.
