Thanked: 3Maybe I'm missing something
I've tried the brush and soap thing
In all of the ways I can think of
In the shower
Out of the shower
Before the shower
Soak the brush in very hot water
Don't soak the brush
Lots of water
Little water
And the results always the same
I go back to my edge gel
Because I simply get a better shave
Anyone else willing to agree with me
Or disagree and give me options

Thanked: 3226Most all soaps will produce a decent enough lather to shave with but some are better than others and some are easier to lather too. You just have to learn how to make a lather. If there is a member in your area, you could see if they would get together with you for some one on one lessons in lathering.
Failing that if Edge Gel works for you why not use it.

Yea and if Gillette Foamy works why not use that? The whole idea is the wet shaving thing leads to a better experience so the question is do you learn proper or just fall back to what this site is trying to wean folks from. You could extend this to, wel...l if learning a straight is an issue use a DE and if that's an issue use a cartridge.
I've used the classic soap years ago and it's descent stuff and your brush is OK so it's a technique thing.
I know there are videos around here on lathering somewhere. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Try posting pics of a lather you have built. Maybe someone can give pointers based on seeing your results.
A method that may help is to soak the brush, then squeeze it very firmly to get the water out. Then overload the brush with soap....to the point that you're thinking "That's too much dadgum soap". Then adjust your faucet so that water is trickling out by the drop. Slowly add water as you build your lather, either with a bowl or on the face. This will take some time in the beginning. As you practice this method, you will gradually dial in how much soap you need and how much water, so the time factor will shrink.
I find that water added gradually instead of all at once, yields a richer lather. And the chance of adding too much water is greatly decreased.
All the promises that lather made with a brush are superior to that from a can, are not hype. Good luck.

Thanked: 3I get a good lather the brush is always Nicely loaded
And i work it in well
Just doesn't seem to shave or feel as good as the gel
I've watched the videos and if anything my lather may be a
Bit to thick and a little to wet
I'm going to try drying it out a bit
I'm only 54 and shave daily so time to make a proper comparison ,I should have.
I'm not sure I buy your comparison though
No method or product is meant for everyone
