Try shaving with cool, cold water...for many it's a better shave, less irritation and you don't have to build a fire and wait for the water to heat up...

Thanked: 72Except for maybe four or five of my very first wet shaves, I have used my Schwarzweisskeramik XL scuttle. I love a hot lather in the winter time and a warm lather in the summer. One of the best things I ever bought for sure.

Totally agree with you, this scuttle is one of the best things I ever bought in wet shaving.
I have the black and white Schwarzweisskeramik XL scuttle and I remember there are only three versions in the website; the white, the black, and the black and white. So, where did you find that beautiful one that you show in the photo??? Do they accept custom orders?

Face lathering obviates the necessity to keep lather warm

Gentlemen,
I like warm lather. For years, whether face or bowl lathering, I have used a scuttle to keep my brush and lather warm. My current scuttle is the Schwarzweisskeramik. Good stuff.

As MedicineMan already noted, Mr. Coffee electric mug warmer.
However, gets too hot pretty fast.
I only leave it turned on for 2-3 minutes. My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

I have a Georgetown Pottery scuttle. I run the sink, until water is hot, then fill the sink and place the scuttle, w/o stopper, and brush in sink, while I shower. Then, the drain the sink, and refill the scuttle with hot water, lather the shaving cream up, and shave. I do 3 passes, and it stays warm the whole time.
Regards,

Thanked: 38Yup...agree with the Georgetown users.
You can put this sucker in the microwave but I settle, for the most part, with just hot water from the tap. I found that, if too hot, it tends to mess with some soaps latherability.Brandon- horses have the temperament of a house cat...a 1,200 pound, frightened cat, with a brain the size of a piece of bubble gum.

Put some hot water in the sink and place you shaving mug or bowl in the hot water. This will keep your lather warm and you can use the hot water to clean your razor during the shave. Ceramic bowls are great as they don't float.
