Possibly Marks water will make soaps act different. Here in Colorado Springs we have great water. But down the road in Denver it sucks.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 1081Therein lies the problem, everyones skin is different. MDC and Xpec both leave me with that tight, pinched feeling, whereas others its all good. Our friend BobH is polar opposite to me, by his own admission he has the skin of a rhino and I have the skin of a 5 year old girl. Whats ideal for some is torture to others. Finding out what works for your skin type/water hardness is all part of the fun

Yes, Jerry, definitely a tight skin feeling for me using that Oleo soap. XPEC, CF Lime, Tabac, Speick, and MWF all lather up fine using my water and do NOT leave any trace of a tight feeling post-shave.
There's enough Rougere left for 2 shaves, so I do plan to give the stuff another go with a proper water ratio to see what happens.Last edited by Speedster; 09-30-2018 at 10:52 AM. Reason: corrected

All i can say is its odd. Maybe just that scent. I dont have that one but i do have 4 others and my face always feel great. As it has just enough of everything and not too much, to give a great feel. Hope you find it better the next time. We are all different. Maybe you have more of a babyface than me. Lol.
I do remember you being kinda cute.Last edited by Gasman; 09-30-2018 at 05:40 AM.

That’s funny - I got the Rougere, was so impressed, that with great anticipation I bought another scent thinking I might exclusively use Oleo - only to get burnt. Literally. It Burned my upper lip pretty horribly. I’ll replace the Rougere, but I’m not going to buy another Oleo product again, in that there’s too much great stuff to be throwing good money after bad. As it were.

Mystery Soap sample #3
Okay, so my innate laziness rewarded me with a superb shave on 5 day's growth -- the crazy, itchy threshold for me. Not only did I choose an often neglected razor, but I wound up using that heavy beast throughout the entire shave despite having the 8/8 Lewis "Sheffield" on standby.
Very croapy, I wound up smashing an almond sized bit of the sample into the ridges of a Georgetown Pottery 20oz scuttle after the usual scuttle warm-up and shower ritual. Lather developed into a beautiful, pillowy white consistency with a very refreshing floral mix scent after a bit of work, but I had absolutely no issues nailing the water ratio. Loads and loads of warm, inviting lather enough for 3 passes easily. This stuff got my excitement up!
I took the 8/8 Livi RWL34 stainless full hollow razor (recently finished on a 20k but only having done an "easy" shave test) and proceeded to do my usual 2 passes with some touch-ups on the sideburn and central neck areas. Finished up the shave with anterior neck clean-up, warm/cold water rinse, and then a dash of Trumper's Coral skin food. BBS shave indeed. Wow!
I began cleaning up and putting things away when I remembered to toss some of David's mystery splash #3 (he included matching splashes for samples 1, 2, and 3) over the finished production. Man....that stuff was refreshingly floral (more complex than the soap by far with many distinct scent notes) with a light bit of "fire" action. A bit powerful at first, I found that after 45 minutes or so that the level dropped off to a glorious reminder of a fantastic shave.
My ratings for the shave characteristics of mystery croap #3 all land squarely in the Tier 1 category regarding the lather's cushion, glide, and post-shave skin feeling. Must resist the urge to faceturbate...

Faceturbate away my friend, faceturbate away. What you just got, was a bit oh lanolin love! Lol.
Have you ever heard of Haslinger? Yeah, we don’t talk about it as much as we used to, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still awesome!!
Now let me just say, a lot of guys think this stuff is cheap because it’s only $9.00 a puck, but the pucks are only 60 grams too! So this stuff isn’t all that cheap at all!
Anyway Mark, you got a hybrid because that small puck was bugging me, but I loved the soap! Loved it. So I decided to just get another - but I also decided to add some scent being the lanolin only was not that scented at all, so I got this:
The sandalwood I thought would add a nice little scent, and it does to a degree. I ground the two up and put it in my tub. Bobs your uncle and I still love it lol. This soap is lovely lovely stuff. I love the lanolin.
As for the splash, that was Fine’s Santal Absolut. “Santal Absolut is a straight-forward and creamy sandalwood fragrance, inspired by Sandalwood (2004) from The Art of Shaving.” It’s a great splash I find. Goes well with the soap - but like you said, way more complex a profile.
I’m really glad you liked them Mark!
Just so everyone knows, Mark PMed me saying he had five days growth and was going to shave/review today. With 5 days of growth, I asked him to use #3 or Haslinger because I knew it would do the job no question! That kind of confidence in a soap says a lot!!David

Yes, I’d heard of Haslinger but don’t recall anyone’s opinion on its performance. Given this soap and a lovely SG20k finish, I’ve never had a better shave off of this Livi.
I certainly love the sandalwood fragrance now that I have half a clue.--Mark
