Recently went through some samplings of the entire Haslinger line (5 soaps). Found them all to be great performers with nice scents. Price is fantastic too at Euro 3.80 a puck here. The only complaint is they can be a thirsty soap and the puck size is apparently problematic for some people. Really glad these soaps are getting a bit of light and love.

I tried one and gave it away. I wasn't impressed by it for some reason. Don't remember why. Maybe if I had used it in a blind test I might have liked it more. I got it for free so I passed it on. Wish I could remember what it was.

    Nice review Mark.

And if you still don't care for the Haslinger after Theoman's fine offer, Jerry, I'd volunteer to take them off your hands.

November is the big Five - oH! for me.

On a serious note, I truly appreciate the post-shave feel of the Haslinger soap -- a very hydrated, soft feeling.

    Smile Super Slick Sample #6

Finally, an easy to lather cream awaited my shave with sample #6 yesterday morning. Very light consistency akin to Baume.be, and a similarly mild, clean scent that I cannot properly describe further.

What I did notice was how luxuriously slick this creamy fluff was brushing on my face after whipping up the lather in my scuttle.

I used an 8/8 Lewis chopper for the usual 2 passes followed by a touch up here and there. The lather provided a good deal of glide but the cushion seemed somewhat lacking (or, I'm possibly reaching to find something to nitpick over). Post-shave feel was fine, and I had no skin irritation anywhere even on my sensitive lower neck. Maybe the cushion is fine, but I'm undecided here. I'm hopeful another go with this cream armed with another razor may help me better judge its overall performance.

In short, I found the #6 shaving cream to be stupid easy to lather with great all-around performance. I cannot imagine the mild scent turning anyone away given its refreshing subtlety. Not much else to say...think I need more java.

And so the anticipation builds for David's reveal...

Any of the big name English creams fit that bill, Taylor's of Old Bond St is such one. Stupid easy to make copious amounts of lather and cheap as chips to boot.

Awesome!! This... this is a throwback to that time before the artisan boom. This is a cream that dispenses out of a tube that I got for travel. This is:

Now that you know Mark, go back and smell it - do you smell the coconut? It's pretty pronounced to me. I like it! Not too sweet, but coconut all the same.

Anyway, I note a lack of enthusiasm in your description. And how couldn't there be a little less enthusiasm after having just used Oleo, and Haslinger! I mean, it's an unfair contest in my opinion. That said, when I first got this stuff back in the day, I was super stocked about it. It's still a great cream but it's funny how things have changed for me.

I'm not going to say it's a bad soap. It's not. It's just not that awesome I've been getting here lately. I'll not be replacing it. But I will say this, you add a little of this to a soap lather and balm!! You've got lather a Gillette photographer would be envious of!! Creams really are easy!! This cream really bonds well for a superlather! And being it's in a tube, it's super easy to travel with! It's not something I want to use every day anymore short of using it for a super-lather, but it really does bode well for when you're on the road and every now and then you will find me squeezing out a shave with it.

Thanks Mark - now go increase your coffee content to 80%.

    Not just a pretty face!

I believe Creightons make the big 3; TOBS, Trumpers and T&H.
They also make St James of London too.

For me nothing is finer on a Sunday than an old Sheffield, Neil Miller strop and a good ol easy to use English cream.
