Mama Bears soaps come in containers with screw on tops. They store one on top of the other. Good stuff too.

The scuttle is for keeping your lather warm. You fill the bottom portion with hot water, which will warm the top portion. You load up your brush with soap, then make your lather in the bowl/top of the scuttle. There is a shave den post that has a lot of good ideas for storing things, from small collections to huge troves. http://straightrazorpalace.com/brush...den-again.html

Those are the vintage style scuttles that are designed for having hot water to soak the brush in at the bottom... Those are drain holes for the soap..
The scuttles that are being referred to by most of the guys in this post are the Moss style that have a sealed lather cup with the hot water enveloping that cup inside the scuttle.. Two different styles for two different styles of lather making...
There is much more to lather making than meets the eye, and you can take it to the extremes as with everything else in shavedom
This is a pic of a vintage scuttle, complete with a puck of Williams in the top
