Soap Recomendation?
I have started using shaving soap recently (Col. Conk Amber). This is the first soap I have ever tried, and while I enjoy the lather and scent, it leaves something to be desired in its effectiveness.
So, my question is what soap would you recommend for someone with oily skin type and a very tough beard?

+1 for Tabac.
Its counterpart soap is a newly reformulated Sir Irisch Moos, which is available at superlather.com
I highly recommend Irisch Moos. Its a fantastic soap, but only comes in a stick.

Check out Mama Bear's soaps. Huge selection, each comes in it's own tub with a screw on lid, Glycerin bases, Crazy Lather, Ton's of Fragrances....One the best soaps I've come across.
Also, Vintage Blades LLC Dot Com has their own brand, It's Triple Milled, which is the best, and it is Outstanding...We have assumed control !

I agree with the Tabac recommendations for a great starter soap. You can find cheaper homegrown "craft" soaps that are about as good as Tabac. Or pay a *lot* more for soaps only marginally better than Tabac.
But Tabac is just a premium-tier soap available at a very competitive price. I've found soaps I prefer slightly, but nothing I've ever tried in two years just "blew the doors off" Tabac, especially for the price. Some don't like the scent (I do), but at bottom it's an inexpensive reference soap that will give you an elite standard to measure other soaps against. Slick stuff!

Thanked: 124Tabac or Mitchell's Wool fat. I think MWF is a little bit better than Tabac, but not a whole lot. MWF smells better, though. Those two are about the best soaps you can get.

Thanked: 143I have, like, and use, both. MWF seems to dry a little faster on the face. For DE shaving it wouldn't matter but for straight shaving, at my skill level, I sometimes need to re-lather before I have completed a full pass. But it is such nice soap otherwise I have no plans to stop using it. Re-lathering is no problem -- the soapy brush is sitting there just begging to be used.

Thanks for this thread. So, then, with Tabac, is cream better than cake or is it just personal preference? Which lasts longer?
