Well, you guys have me convinced. I'm going to try/buy some MWF. I was thinking of buying some anyways, from all the positive feed back. I was torn between MWF and Tabac. Well, this settles it, I'm going to buy both! I will update, this post when I receive and try them. I agree with you Zib on T-H 1805. It is a awesome scent! Hey Zib I even threw a picture in for you. Cool

I said I would, and I finally did it. I bought MWF from Straight Razor Designs. today. Thank you Don and Lynn, you guys are class acts. Thank you Don for personally handling my order, and the awesome conversation. I can't wait to try this S/S. The only problem I see, is do I use this soap straight up, or do I whip up a Uber-lather with some S/C and glycerin? I'm also looking forward to using the SRD frankincense S/S. I think It's safe to say I have SAD. Oh yeah, I for got to mention the Tabac I ordered today as well; Yeah I have SAD. I'll chime back when I try the MWF. What to do in the mean time, waiting for my S/Ss, I got it what about some new S/Cs?

I'd say give the fat a good go before mixing in additives. While it does play well with creams, I don't know about glycerin, learn what the fat is about alone first. For some people that takes a few goes, because of water, brush, etc, to get it just right.

Hey bass guy, I think your right, I'll try it straight up, then I can see how it compares to the awesome uber-lather. Imho, the glycerin oil, is the ingredient, that turns lather from, lather deluxe, in terms{S/S, & S/C}, to Uber-lather {S/S, S/C, glycerin oil}. You should try it, imho. It's worth the time, and wait. I'm used to soaps that take a while to lather, even the triple milled ones, because of the hard water I have. This art form has taught me plenty of patience. My brush is a C-M Sheffield Super Silver Tip, it's awesome.

    Default Michell's Wool Fat

    Gentlemen,

My order of two more pucks of Michell's Wool Fat shave soap arrived. Now I have one in use and two in the bank, so to speak. That, plus one Mama Bear unscented in use and two in the bank.

I expect I am set, at least, through next year. Then again, maybe I should order more of each soap just in case. Just in case what, I don't know. Just in case. Yes, maybe I will order more of each — because you never know.

    Regards,
    Obie

Well my MWF arrived yesterday from Straight Razor Designs. Thank you once again Don and Lynn. I haven't had the chance to try it though, thanks to the upper respitory flu. It's bad enough being sick, then on top of that, it interferes with your straight shaving, really makes it worrse. Well I hope I can shake this flu soon. When I do, I will jump back on this thread.

    Default Lanolin may be bad........

Have a look at this. While reading about the effect of Lanolin on the skin, I read that Lanolin is also an excellent absorber and transporter of chemicals. Wool is often treated for pesticides and dipped prior to removal of the Lanolin, which absorbs the pesticides...have a read and draw your own conclusions..

No problem O_S we are here to help ;-). In essence you are correct about the general idea of the distillation process. There is really no need to elaborate here, unless you are really interested, of course ;-). The only point that I am going to make, very respectfully and only trying to increase understanding, is that the pesticides are not toxins. However, once again, you are correct on both counts: 1) heating would denature most toxins; and 2) distillation would separate the lanolin from most of the pesticides ;-).

On a side note, many common household products, textiles, leather, etc. that we put in contact with our bodies (or in our bodies) are obtained after they are purified from or treated with chemicals that are toxic or dangerous to humans. If I am allowed, I think that people go overboard with some of the conclusions and conspiracy theories. I agree that in some instances the controls are not astringent enough.

Very good post/thread ;-). I love Mitchell's Wool Fat!!!!! Great Soap, very gentle on the skin.

    Al raz.

I could be mistaken, but as I understand it, distillation involves heating, which would destroy some, if not all toxins, and distilling is a method of purification.

Again, I could be mistaken, as science was/is not one of my strong points.

    Thumbs up

Well I finally got the chance to shave with my new Mitchell's Wool Fat tonight. It really was awesome, imho. I posted some pictures of tonights shave, in the SOTD forum, if any one cares, to check them out. I'm really impressed with how well, and fast the MWF lathers, even with my hard water. Totally impressive! It was very slick, nice cusion, very moisturizing, no irritation at all. Great stuff. Easliy my new favorite soap. The amount of lather for how little a swirled on the puck, is amazing in itself! This stuff will last a long time, and that's cool with me. It really behaved like a Uber-lather!! It was just the soap though! No cream or glycerin. WOW! this is some great stuff, I suggest evryone to try it.
