Wrong Jim. I have been using Haslinger Honey for a while and Potassium Tallowate is listed on the list of ingredients. They have several scents and a few have tallow.

Ah, really? The Shavemac site said "Pure plant oils" and the ebay seller said "No animal products".

Thanks for the heads up. Teaches me to believe what I read on the internet!

    Default AOS is tallow based?

So I guess AOS sandalwood is tallow-based then? I'm pretty new to SR shaving but have been using AOS sandalwood for some time now (long before SR came up for me...) and like it. I had no idea what's in it though.

Also I recently tried this one here off ebay:

SOFT shaving scuttle soap, Earthy-Fresh, fits any mug - eBay (item 150374785587 end time Oct-21-09 17:33:32 PDT)

...and I have to say I like that a lot too. I guess that one is clycerin based.

I just bought that ebay stuff on a lark because the guy who makes it made it sound pretty good in the description of it. Cheap too. I enjoyed just sticking it in an old coffee cup and giving it a try. Fit perfectly.

I have been testing these two side-by-side since i started using SR (only a few days now) and really they are very different indeed but I can't quite say that one is better than the other. I'm sure to pick up a few more pucks from this guy, and keep on with the AOS sandalwood too I figure.

The problem is that the same company who makes Haslinger soap also has an all-organic shaving soap and every vendor I have seen for some odd reason has the ingredients mixed up. I remember contacting a vendor about this as I was afraid they had reformulated and the vendor had gotten back to me confirming it did contain tallow and that the advertisement online was wrong. Funny enough the same vendor is still showing the wrong info. lol

Let me clarify one thing. I am going on observation alone. I've tried equal numbers of brands of soaps on both sides of the fence, and I draw similarities to the ones that I know are "tallow" soaps versus those that aren't.

I don't know what makes CADE awesome, but it lathers like a tallow-based soap so I lumped it in the category. Like I said in my OP, if any of the ones on my list of favorites turn out to be glycerin based, then the manufacturer is doing something considerably different than the other glycerin soaps I've tried.

    Have a great night, all....

P.S. Jim, do yourself a favor and pick up a puck of Prairie Creations.

Definitely try QED glycerine soaps - Wild Orange is my favorite, but Limes, sandlewood and many others are great. All essential oil creations and just awesome performance, and I find them very protective.

HBS is quite nice too - my favorite so far is pina colada though I like old spice too. These are closer to MB but I like them a tad more. The QED is really different I think.

As for tallow, my favorites are (this week):

DRH Arlington, AOS lemon, C&S 88, Penhaligons EF (followed closely by many many others).
    Forgive my ignorance.... QED? HBS?

So far I've tried TGQ and MB, and though "Awakenings" uberlather with Poraso makes a mean lather, the soap on its own is lackign something. Like I said, I think I've been spoiled.

    I totally agree,

I have like 6 QED soap and love to stick my nose in the tubs. Given the use of a fair amount of EO's they smell divine but compared to the tallow based soaps we are talking about they lack that slick thickness lather and cushioning.

That's exactly my problem. I have a tub of QED rose/sandalwood that just doesn't do it for me in terms of slickness or cushion. I end up cutting myself much more with it. BUT I can't stop smelling it. If I could bathe with it I would. All the time.
OTOH, Olivia's semi-solid cream in Dark Rhassoul is amazing smelling as well, can't put it down, but is tallow and performs right up there with the best.
What are we to do with all these EOs?
