Thanked: 293I'm getting spoiled with Tallow.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I think I am going to retire from glycerin soaps. Nothing generates a thick fluffy lather like tallow-based soaps, and the glycerin soaps seem to dry out on me too quickly. Maybe there's something I'm doing wrong, but nothing compares to the soaps below, in my opinion, in terms of lather, cushion, and glide:
1. Tabac
2. L'Occitane
3. Haslinger
4. Pre de Provence
I'm also slowly trying more creams, so maybe I'll find a balance. Also, if one of my favorites above is glycerin based, then they are doing something that other glycerin soap makers are not.
Of course, I'm also open to suggestions of other brands, glycerin or otherwise, but note that I've tried TGQ and MB.
Cheers,
Ogie

I have to agree, I also find the Tallow based soaps / creams so much better for me to shave with. The glyceric soaps dry and flake on my face.
TABAC is #1 for me!

I've been moving in this direction as well. Tabac isn't even in my top 5 soaps at the moment, and when I can say that... glycerin soaps just don't have much room in my rotation

I feel ya,
I have had the best shaves of my life with tallow based soaps, especially (unfortunately) endangered english ones that smell like fern...
I've had OK luck with glycerin soaps, the smells are usually out of this world, but the tallow always brings it home.

Ogie,
you should get yourself the tallow based Valobra shaving stick. Not the soft soap (has no tallow) but the stick. Excellent performer.
I'm waiting for some soap from Krissy which is supposed to be tallow based. Another interesting quest for tallow based soaps.
May the tallow be with us!

Thanked: 293Max -- I also ordered from Krissy yesterday... we'll see how that goes (I got the Bay Rum scent).
I will check out a Valobra shave stick. I haven't used a shave stick yet so that should be fun....
Thanks.
EDIT: Max -- is this the one you're talking about?

That's the one. A very clean crips soapy scent. I grated mine in a tub and pressed it together tightly.
Last I heard the company is thinking of bringing out a tub version as they have been getting so many requests. However I wouldn't wait that long.
Other still available tallow based soaps are
speick - shave stick
Irisch Moos - Shave Stick
Cella - Crema da Sapone and Crema da Barba All´Olio di Mandorla
Palmolive - shave stick
Olivia's soft soap/cream
Czech & Speake
AOS
Dr Harris - both tallow and palm oil
MWF
The great Tabac off course
Might have forgotten a few. It's still early for me.

For all you tallow lovers, you might grab a puck of Old Spice off ebay or the classifieds here or on other forums. The scent may be gone from age, but the lather is incredible.
Just a thought.

Thanked: 143Three I like, all with tallow:
Mitchels Wool Fat (MWF)Cella is a mix of coconut oil and tallow. The combination works well. Tallow is the primary ingredient on the other two.
Cella
Prairie Creations (aka Krissy's soap)
I have been trying out Prairie Creations for the past 2-3 weeks and can't bring myself to go back to my old standby MWF. (Currently out of Cella.)
