    Default MWF Great Lather

I have not had the problems some folks have had in getting MWF to lather. I live in central Arkansas, and we have really great water, very soft. It wasn't until this morning that I got a really great lather though. I have decided that face lathering is the best way to go for MFW as well as several other soaps I have. I decided to add water very sparingly until I thought it was right. At a certain point the lather almost exploded and felt very creamy. The aroma was very noticable as well. In prior uses, it just seemed like a soapy smell. This morning it was very noticable. I can't really describe it well, but it was still subtle. This was my best shave with MWF with an Arco blade in an EJ DE razor. I have been back to DE razors after about a 35 year use of various cartridge razors. It has been only about 2 months, but I have learned a lot about shaving in that time than the past 45 years. So far, from the various soaps I have tried, I like the MWF the best. I have tried several non tallow soaps, but mostly prefer tallow.

Thanks to the Forum in general.

I love the MWF too Skip. I am a bowl latherer and do way better that way. Heck of it is decades of smoking tobacco pipes have compromised my sense of smell so I can't find an aroma in MWF at all. Makes it great for mixing with cream for super lather though.

I do plan on experimenting with bowl lathering. I bowl lathered for a number of years with cartridge razors, most recently Mach 3. It takes a different technique to get a good lather for a DE shave.

If you've got a great lather from MWF, you're set. I haven't found
any other soap that's as moisturizing and conditioning to the skin
as MWF. (Oh, do get the ceramic dish too -- it's great)

Funny thing is I face lathered from '73 until I began with the straights a couple of years ago. I just do better in a bowl after watching mantic's videos.

The fat is a really nice soap, I can face lather with it, no problems for me there! I love how you get that nice moisture to your skin from the soap, it's worth the money, imo.

The above quote gives me some hope. I was set to get some MWF until Scott from Rasage Poulin clued me in to the fact that Alberta has faily hard water (I was unaware of this fact), and MWF doesn't seem to play nice with our water.

I guess you never know until you try, but I'm not sure that the ceramic dish is worth paying 2-1/2 times what the soap refill costs.

    Any thoughts?

I bought the ceramic dish recently. I don't know if it is worth it, but it is a nice dish, and as far as ceramic or porcelain soap dishes (ex: Edwin Jagger) go, the price is comparable if not less. Certainly, it will fit in a plastic tub, like the empties from Mama Bear, and works just as well. It is just that I remember 1-2 years ago, when MWF was only available from the the UK, and the ceramic dish + soap cost $65 delivered to the US, and I wanted to get one in case that happened again.

I use it in the dish when I use a badger brush, and I have a ragged, half-used one in a mug for use with boar, since I make lather with that differently, like this.

MWF is in my regular rotation. It's great stuff. I find you need to use a good bit more water with it to create a lather but once you get it going it lathers with the best of them.
