    Default OUCH! SRD Lime!

    Hello,

I just wanted to report and get some feedback on an issue I am having with SRD's Lime Soap.

I have never considered my face to be "sensitive" nor am I aware of any allergies to things that I may have. Every time I apply the lather to my face with or without a badger brush, it quickly starts to irritate my skin! I get a burning sensation and some stinging even when I apply it without having shaved for a day!

Does anyone have similar reactions to any other soaps? Any suggestions as to what I can do?

Now, I am certainly not suggesting that this soap is of inferior quality or "bad", I am simply sharing my experience, which I gather is probably just one of those freak "whodathunkit" occurrences! I can say that it smells quite nice, and builds great lather with nice slickness that lasts a while.

    Anything with cinnamon gets me…

    Vladimir,

I had the same thing with soaps/creams that contain a lot of glycerin.

My face looked like an exploded strawberry after using them

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

You might just be allergic to the soap, or the scent, but you might also be making too dry a lather-- a common mistake for people used to the canned goop-- and the high soap concentration is irritating you. Try using a bit more water in your lather and see what it does for you.

I bought some CarrieM's unscented cream and scented it myself with lemon verbena essential oil. It stung me and Carrie suggested that I had put too much essential oil in. She asked me to mix up a batch of uberlather with it as see if it eliminated the stinging. It definitely did.

So I ordered a second jar of unscented and mixed the two together. The result smelled very nice and no longer stung.

So I would offer the same advice. Try mixing it strong in some ublerlather and see if it still stings. It might just be the intensity of the essential oil vs your skin tolerance.

At that point, maybe melt and mix 1:1 with some unscented. It will still have a great smell but not sting.

    Just a thought.

Yes, It would be worth experimenting with. SRD's soaps are among my favorites. They build lather like nobody's business. As the other's said, Try thinning it out a bit, maybe add some cream, like Kiss my Face. See if that works, I'd hold off on adding any additional glycerin like the traditional uber recipe calls for. It could be the Lime EO used in the soap making process.

What other creams and soaps have you tried?

I have had problems in the past with Vanilla based stuff and I have no allergies either. Funny, but not every Vanilla either. But on some of the soaps with it, I am bright red and burnin' quickly. I never have understood how these things work where thousands of people have no problems with something and then one or a couple people do. Guess it's the luck of the draw.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

So far, I have only tried some Truefitt & Hill Luxury shave soap, it has a lavender scent. I wish I had more experience to compare this with, however it is a journey I have just begun and although I never expected something like this to ever happen, its been very pleasant because of this forums help and my great experience doing business with SRD.

In general, unless you're allergic to some very basic ingredients as lanolin, glycerin,... it's the amount of EO or even FO used that can trigger that burning, stinging or allergic reaction. Some tubs or batches of soap might end with more EO or FO when poured. Nothing much you can do. At least this has been my experience so far.

Sandalwood is my dangerous one, and I love it but I have only a couple soaps and creams that I can use in that scent..

    Sometimes we learn these things...
