I agree wholeheartedly with LegalBeagle. The Martin de Candre is a must have.

If the Martin de Candre is too pricey for you, try Mitchell's Wool Fat or I Coloniali "Mango Oil" shaving soap. Both are available from an online vendor who is an SRP member.

Seeing you don't use your Palmolive soap anymore, it seems a shame to let it go to waste as it is a really good and very reasonable product. You would find it worthwhile to buy the equally cheap Palmolive tube cream; load the brush with soap then swirl it up in a bowl with a squidge of the green cream and a drip or two of glycerin. They build up to "uber" proportions. They get a really shiny gloss, and don't dry on your face as quickly as soap alone.
If it's smell you want, the health food shops are full of little dropper bottles of essential oils, mostly very cheap: sandalwood, orange, birch tar, rose.......... ginger and lime work well together. Just a drop or two and away you go.

Martin de Candre hands down. Simple the finest hard soap in the world. The only other soap that comes close would be D.R. Harris Arlington and I have MWF, Cella, P.160 and a host of others.

I would like to try a new soap but my girlfriend and I have had quite some discussions about my SR obsession so I can only buy one soap unfortunately. What would you say is the "ultimate" soap? I know this is very subjective but I would still like your input.

I'm also looking for an after shave or after shave balm with a scent similar to the sandalwood or that type of scent. I used to like the more sporty scent in the past but that doesn't do it for me anymore. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check out Cella is is a half hard half soft soap/cream
that is easy to lather and easy to shave with.

But gosh there are too many "must try" soaps.

Tabac if handy is always worth a look.

What is a "must try" soap? Easy. All of them.

i definately recommend proraso. i used the tube cream, and it takes no more than an almond size amount to whip up an awesome, thick lather. the menthol in it feels great after each pass in completed. it is a nice cool breeze on your face before applying more warm lather. it's pretty inexpensive and will last a very long time.

I'm thinking of ordering the MWF together with ToOBS sandalwood AS. Just need to pitch the idea to the old lady.
Make a list of the shave soaps you can find in Sweden... Some here might help you to decide on
a short list to try first. I picked up the Palmolive recently and it shaves very well.

Rinse well when done shaving and apply one drop of cologne about 20 min after
shaving if you are underwhelmed by the fragrance of Palmolive.

My choice is Kent Menthol, never tried anything better.
