I tried Cella 2 years ago because I like tallow soaps and the positive reviews. I love the smell, the italian flavor and the container, but I didn't like how it seemed to sting my skin. 3 shaves was enough and I traded it away for a different soap. I love proraso and tabac, but this just seemed to not be nice to my sensitive skin.

I really enjoy Cella but have a difficult time lathering it in a scuttle, therefore it doesn't see much use anymore.

I've had better luck face-lathering Cella vs. bowl lathering. The difference was pretty significant.

'Tis indeed the same. I just bought the 1 kg brick...a great value for such a great product.

Further enabling for you...if you're ordering from italian barber online, think about picking up a tub of the Razorock shave cream/soap if you haven't tried it already. for $5, it's a stellar value (and an amazing product).

What is quirky about Cella is that the block is a bit different than the tub although both list the same ingredients. Plus face lathering as mentioned produces far better results than bowl lathering for some unknown reason.

do you think it's actually different? or does the packaging just affect how it behaves?

    This from another board:

Somebody from a German shaving board had a call with the manufacturer of CELLA recently and the woman on the other end told him as following:

The 1kg brick - "Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima" - is a SOAP.
sapone means soap, if you want: "creamy soap"

The other one in the red bowl - "Crema da Barba all'Olio di Mandorla" - is a shaving cream. same here, its name already gives us the hint: "crema da barba".
loose translation -> "cream for shaving" - real translation would be "shaving cream".

    conclusion:
The brick is a soap, the bowl contains a shaving cream. Confirmend by the producer.

It is my belief the difference in the packaging effects the way it is cured.
