I'd have to agree with Ryan here. I've been at this for a while, and have tried over 100 soaps and creams, While some are better than others, TGQ never really blew me away. The fragrances are unique and complex, but I didn't think the lather was all that great. Now....I do have a water softner. Maybe it works better with hard water, I don't know? I tried TGQ 3x including her shave cream. I'm the one that doesn't like it. Cavendish Black is the Tobacco based soap, I think. I do like the smell, so if I use it, I Uber it....Glycerin, Tallow, it doesn't matter, I like both....but....I really prefer Shave Creams to Soaps.....
La Occtaine was probably one of the better soaps I've tried in a while.....
P.S. I'm trying to show both sides of the coin here guys....Don't flame me bro.....!Last edited by zib; 05-30-2011 at 03:54 PM.

I sorely miss my puck of cavendish black. Has anyone tried Synergy's Cavendish? Does it smell the same and have great lather??

OK, so I bought a small tin of the Cavendish (tho from Phoenix Accoutrements, not HTGAM- guess they took em over)
When I originally smelled the soap it was quite strong, got some on my hand and smelled it quite a few hours afterward...
I lathered it up, just a few strokes of a wet brush & the thing exploded with later, wow.
The scent on the face was not as strong as in the tin. It did linger faintly for a few hours.
The lather was dense & I got a fine shave with my DE. Will try with a straight tomorrow.
So is it a replacement for the Gentleman's Quarter Cavendish Black?
From my memory (& my bottle of the CB cologne I still have) the Phoenix Cavendish seems to have the upfront sweetness similar to CB but CB seems to have musky afternotes the Phoenix lacks. Still a nice scent & performance so it will go into rotation with my 12 creams and 15 soaps.... (yah, Soap Acquisition Disorder)
BTW, I ordered the Phoenix Sandalwood also, in my quest for the ultimate sandalwood scent. It comes in probably first, just edging out my HoneyBee Sue Sandalwood. Same base scent as HoneyBee, with a touch more spice at the end, same explosive lather, though the Honeybee lingers longer...... further testing required....
Sholda ordered the Malbolge also, that sounds interesting.... got some shavings of these two, anyone wanna trade?
