I can't see why they're banning actual paper books if they're running them through the scanner and sniffer. The really scary talk is that they're considering banning ALL electronic devices for carry-on. I think the airlines would scream if they ban laptops, as that will kill the business traveller. It's bad enough that I wouldn't have my PDA and ebooks. Lose the laptop and not only am I unable to do my job, but there are sensitive proprietary data on the hard drive. Methinks our driving radius is going to expand again.

You dont see why they are banning books!!! How small minded of you! I'll give you several good reasons:

    • They can be thrown at people and if the angled correctly the spine of the book can knock out an air marshal
    • Books can be burnt with matches and used to send smoke signals to other terrorists on board
    • And of course...the highly trained terror cells are well skilled in the arts of orgami and can make dangerous weapons like that shown below...when thrown can easily penetrate the eyes, ears, and if thrown at the right angle can be lodged in nostrils

    Bah!

I say keep a Kabar in every seat. This could be removed for people with small children. Then let people bring their toenail clippers and leatherman tools onboard once more. A few people with evil intent couldn't hope to overpower an airplane full of people with kabars.

This is arguably a viable solution when dealing with terrorists with knives. However, the logic does not seem to hold up for explosives. Once an explosive device is detonated there is not much other passengers can do to prevent a tragedy and/or a crash.

Better to be armed than not armed at all.
That being said though, if someone tried
to hi-jack a plane since the Islamic Attacks
(9-11) the person or persons would be
beaten to death by the other passengers.
If this did happen the body(s) should be put
on display at the airport as a warning to all
other potential hi jackers and terrorists.

They wouldn't care. They'd just say a prayer for the martyrs and figure out a way to make sam launchers out of map cases and baking soda until both substances got banned.
