Default Will something really bad happen to me if I don't like MWF?

    I'm afraid, very afraid.

I haven't tried as many soaps as most of you but I have tried Taylor of Old Bond Street (Lavender), Art of Shaving (Lavender in tube), Ogallala Bay rum (like 5 scents), and... MWF. Will the soap gods come after me for the fact that I don't really like MWF? I don't understand! I know that soap, along with everthing pertaining to this hobby, is personal preference. But I just don't understand how such a highly regarded soap is one that I cannot get myself to shave with again?!?!?

It was good to briefly know you guys. Who knows what will be of me after this post...

I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I happen to like MWF Bath Soaps better than their shave soap, but that's me...I normally Uber MWF with Musgo Real and 5 drops of Glycerin...It's Gssixguns "Lanolin Overload" I bet if you did that, you'd love it....

I don't like TGQ Soaps, very highly regarded among the members....

I really liked MWF in Iowa City. I liked it on the farm in Chatfield a few months ago. In my temporary apartment in Rochester, where I do not have softened water and am subject to the plain old awful hard water of Rochester, MWF sucks. It's what people who don't know how to make lather with Williams soap whine about. I have tried repeatedly, but I cannot make a decent lather with it using hard water. Oddly, it is the only soap I have found to not work properly. We're buying a house in exactly two weeks. After we move in, I'll be installing our Kinetico and I will be using nothing but MWF for a couple of weeks.

The moral of this story is, if you don't like MWF, it might be your water.

MWF makes my skin burn so I am just going to stick with Tabac, CF creams, Pens tallow English Fern, Proraso, Martin de Candre, and a few other soaps and creams...yea what a bummer!

    Take Care,

You'll be just fine. The statement "I don't like MWF." is a perfectly acceptable, formulated opinion. What gets people flamed is when they have the hubris to extrapolate from their opinion that "MWF isn't good soap," not realizing that some being good and something being to your liking are very, very different things.

If you don't like the scent or it bothers your face, there is probably nothing you can do about that. But if you are having trouble with the lather, then, as Utopian suggests, others may be able to help you out. While you made it quite clear you don't like MWF, we have no idea why, so there isn't much to say.

Not that it really matters, given that your use of a straight razor and all things related is about making you, and only you, happy.

I personally don't dislike MWF, but I have roughly one metric ton of soap to choose from and many time forget that I have some.
Like Dylan said this is about what makes you happy. Right now I have some samples of some of the best soaps that wetshaving has to offer. They make me happy right now. Next month I'll probably be back on The Bomb or Ogalalla or, or, or...

Enjoy the variety that this hobby has to offer, I do, and soap is inexpensive for the most part.

I know this is about MWF, but what soaps work best with hard water?
