Water softner's actually help produce more soap, or more lather. You use less laundry detergent, dish soap, etc...If you've never used one, you probably used too much soap. They're also friendly on your pipes. They leave no hard water stains on your faucets, etc... However, I hear the salt is hard on the enviorment. You get very used to having a water softner, once you get one, you wonder how you ever lived without it. When you first use them, you do feel "slick" after showering, that goes away pretty fast. You don't have that dried out feeling normally associated with soap.

    Here ya go:

Why does soft water feel slimy or slick in the shower?

Water that has been conditioned by a water softener allows soap to dissolve more completely than in hard water. It is common for first time users of soft water to have a slimy experience in the shower. This is due to using more soap than is necessary. The amount of soap needed to lather up is very small in soft water. This is one of the benefits of soft water (less soap is needed in the bathing, laundry, and household cleaning). Also, the pores of your skin will no longer be clogged by the undissolved soap. Once a person has adjusted their soap usage and is used to the smooth clean feeling achieved by bathing in soft water, they will have a negative "ruff" feeling, if they bath in hard water again.

I love the T&H creams and have a hard time picking just one or two even as a favorite. Not sure they work better than the other English brands (aren't they all made in the same factory with just minor differences in formulations?) but they work well enough that I've bought the lime, rose, and will likely add 1805 and Grafton down the road.

So I just finished my last sample in the TF&H sample pack (I also tried a sample of Authentic No. 10). First off, the quality of the shave creams and balms throughout the entire line is just fantastic. I can't imagine taking TF&H out of my top 3 anytime soon.

Now on to the second point, scent. I really wanted to like a lot of their scents but overall I was almost completely disappointed. I'm just not someone who likes cologne or perfume scented shave products, they smell artificial to me. I prefer a strong natural scent (castle forbes limes please!) or just something softer. So I was pretty dissapointed as almost all the shave creams smelled like cologne or perfume to me. Even, the ones I thought weren't going to, just had this artificial harsh base to them.

Out of the entire sample line, the product that knocked it out of the park for me was the Ultimate Comfort Pre-Shave. It had a citrus scent that I loved, and it is the best pre-shave I have used to date. This is on my must buy list. I really want to buy a shave cream to go with it, so I am most likely just going to pick up the Ultimate Comfort Shave Cream. The scent is labeled as unscented, but it has a soft (lavendar?) scent to it. It's not ideal but out of the entire line it's the one I liked the most. The only other scent that was ok for me was 1805, mostly because it was a softer scent. Unfortunately the Ultimate Comfort After Shave is truely unscented, and that always smells wrong to me.

So that's it. I highly, highly recommend checking out the Truefitt and Hill shaving sampler if you haven't already. Their products are definitely on the more expensive side, but the quality is just amazing.

I completely agree. I just bought a TF&H No. 10 because I needed a gentle soap right away, and the local mens-grooming-shop had it.
The lather is great. Doesn't have a lot of glide to it, and it's a little bit dry, but it lathers up really nicely. Getting a lush lather is easy.
The smell though.. good grief. It smells like cheap shampoo/hair-balsam for women.

But I adore it, only because this is the first soap that doesn't give me large red spots (probably because of allergy).
This is only my second soap so far though... There are many soaps to come.

Default Just received Truefitt & Hill Sample Pack

Just went to their web site. That does seem like an excellent sample selection! And the price includes shipping.

I take that back. Now that I've used it some more, I have grown very fond of it.
The fragrance is clean, refined and fresh.
