Thread: Matching uberlather scents

Maybe you haven't noticed yet- but straight razor shavers are tinkerers and experimenters. We are hands on all the way. We try all kinds of hones, strops, soaps, creams, scuttles, pre and post treatments and techniques involving them. We restore razors and customize scales using different buffing compounds and materials and techniques.
Uberlather and mixing scents is just in keeping with the hands on nature of the members here. With every experiment we move ourselves a little closer to perfection - which of course we will never achieve

Thanked: 13245Much of this is personal,
Some people are happy with just shaving.
Others want to make this more of a hobby rather then just something to remove the hair on our face..
Many "discussions" are simply because these two groups don't understand each other
This is where the acronym YMMV comes in very handy...

I don’t see how one can go closer to perfection by mixing soaps, creams, and scents. The contrary I’d say. Anyway, I can understand that some wet shavers may believe that the final lather is improved. However, I am really curious to know what the majority of wet shavers believe about it.

Thanked: 13245Doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks...
Its my cream, my soap, my glycerin, and my face, so only my opinion matters....
Also Please Keep in mind you came onto a thread that was specifically about Uberlather recipes not about whether they work better, so most of us are all about Uberlathers...
We already are conviced they work better, that's why we are making them...Last edited by gssixgun; 12-14-2011 at 11:39 PM.

I like Almond scents. Mixing almond cream, like Taylors with any almond soap just rocks.

There is nothing wrong with you but there is a good reason to make uberlather whether you mix scents or not. There is nothing quite like thick, creamy lather that is full of moisture with the right slipperiness against the skin...all the better when the lather is warm for all three passes. Barbers for generations have understood this. Face lather if that works for you, heck, use shaving cream from a can if you like, but there is a point...it makes a superior product in my experience.

Ok - I mix Tobac soap and Irisch Moos cream in my Uberlather. My skin loves the tallow base of the Tobac soap and the scent is pretty good. I love the richness and scent of Irisch Moos cream. Mix the two and the lather they produce is pretty incredible, especially after adding a couple of drops of glycerin. Super slick, very moisturizing and the new scent is really nice.
There are other purists that just like the cream or soap by themselves - that's great too. But if you are willing to experiment, sometimes you can find some great combos, and sometimes not.
I don't quite understand why you believe mixing soaps and creams would be contrary to finding perfection. This is pretty much what developers do in a lab.
