VDH why not?
So I had to stop at a Walgreens today for some cold medicine and the first sign I say said shaving so naturally I go down that isle just to see. They had VDH shave soap there so I figured, why not I'll try it? So I picked up a puck I also notice they carry Clubman if I didnt already have a 12 oz bottle I would have got some of that too.

Probably most of us started out with the big three; VDH, Williams and possibly Surrey. They are basic products that get the job done but there is a whole universe of superior products out there and many don't cost that much more.

Oh yes the selection can be overwhelming. I had recently finished a tub of Proraso and needed some more soap. I have been using Palmolive and GFT creams and figured why not give VDH a go. I found it to work fine, good enough for me anyway. I do plan to make a trip to see Don while I am in Ohio in June for some GFT or maybe Tabac. I know he doesnt rush you so I'm sure I will find something (likely a few somethings) I like.

Thanked: 1195We don't get VDH in Canada, but we do get Williams. I bought it because it was $1.80 or something, so why not? It is good for something afterall: reminding me why I like the good stuff! :P
Seriously though, experimenting is always good, especially if it's only going to set you back a couple bucks. The curiosity will always be there, and it won't go away until you try it....

It is a servicable product with a very low price, and very high availability. No real reason not to try it. It is obviously less luxurious than, say, DR Harris, and it isn't as "fun" as getting in the Williams debates, but if you are out of town and forgot your soap, VDH will get you through the week just fine.
