Yes, well off-topicing is very naughty. However, in all seriousness, I think asides to topics or conversations is a normal social activity, and this is a social site. One with a focus but I do think we shouldn't get too annoyed if we chat with each other now and again. However, I WAS going to say the other day that we should minimise the 'I did a workout today. I did beer-to-the-mouth arm curls' retorts, so your point is taken...
Did 1.5 hours of bouldering tonight (you guessed that anyway, didn't you?) in the 40 degrees heat. Sent two new problems and did some long traverses to build endurance. Fingers are sore, shoulders are sore, skin is sore, calluses are ugly looking, veins are popping. Had a massive 'cheat day' in regards to food (at the work place training seminar today) and ate BREAD, BISCUITS and MINTIES by the handfull!
This morning I did 30mins of cross training, part way between fat burn and cardio heart rate, a few press ups, push ups and one of those ab wheel thingys.
Tonight I went for a brisk 50 minute walk, then a few push ups and ab wheel thingy, my stomach muscles hurt too much to do more sit ups.
What on earth is the difference between a press up and a push up?!
Those ab wheel things would be good, I noted and exercise the other say of essentially the same motion using a barbell with weights on it; rolling it out from your body.
Ed, one day get on the train and come over to SA and I'll take you bouldering, it's SO good for the core and a WHOLE bunch of other stuff...
Then we'll go to the pub and undo all the good we've just done...With some beer-to-the-mouth arm curls...
Crunches for the abs, but the full sit up has been largely neglected in recent decades and as a result those of us that were taught sit ups were bad crunches were good, now have weak hip flexors. Id Est. Me! I'm still having soreness issues from two weeks or more now, and I'm tentative to get back out on the board for now because of it. I think I did more harm than I originally thought...That or I just take longer to heal now, than I did 20 years ago.
Todays workout was three hours of lawn and garden work, followed by some beerbell arm curls and full tobacco pipe lifts. Today has been a slack day for diet and exercise. I needed the release today. I've been so long on a strict diet (and until recently, exercise, which has stopped for the above related reason) that I had to give myself a break. I've got a long way to go to get to where I'm happy, but I figure it's a long distance run and not a bloody sprint, so I need to slow down occasionally to catch the breath a bit.
As ever, you blokes are the ones that keep me inspired to plug on. I read every post for the motivation...Even the 'off topic' ones are good for the alleviation of a days stress :).

Well my stomach "muscles" :) are still sore from the other day, and I missed my morning exercise today asiI slept right through my 03.45 alarm and my 05.00 get out of bed right now or you won't get to the bus in time alarm barely woke me. Will go to the gym tonight after work for a bit of light cardio I think.
It is important to have days off Mick, or you will get to breaking point and just give up. My goal is to be back in shape by next Christmas or better still summer, I have a lot of work to do and don't want to overdo it and give up again.
I've been trying to blast my biceps and triceps, but i haven't seen great gains.
Anybody have any tips on blasting them.
Thanks.
For the biceps, have you tried 'twenty ones'? You do EZ bar curls with a lighter weight than normal and do 7 curls, then at rthe bottom of the 7th you do 7 1/2 curls, going up only until the forearm is parallel to the floor. Then, on the 7th rep of that you do 7 curls for the top part only; forearms parallel to the ground to the top. Also, reverse curls are good as are CG under hand chinups.
For the triceps I like CG Bench presses using and EZ Curl bar, CG Smith Machine Bench Presses and dips with weight.
I think shape of the arms is more important than size, but shape (i.e. a really peaky biceps Vs a big round arm) has a lot to do with genetics.
Another two hours of indoor bouldering at a different gym today with BOTH sons this time. It was Joel's first time, he's 16 and in the act of losing weight. Aaron is 23 and really fit. We had a great time, I sent a V4 problem that involved a LOT of upper body strength and 'campussing' climbing using only your arms. On a couple of climbs I was actually impressed by the fact that I could hold on to quite small holds without a problem; my finger strength has really increased.
Last night I did 30mins on the treadmill varying from 6-10kph and 0-4 incline, covered more than 3km, did some.incline situps, a plank, push ups and the ab wheel thingo.
This morning I did 5mins cross training, 10 mins of treadmill, 6kph 15 incline, a few push ups and the wheel Thingy.
My tummy hurts :( well maybe that's good, it means the muscles have been working, though if that is DOMS I don't understand the pleasure :)
Up at 3 A.M,go pee,make coffee,shave, get dressed,out to the shop,3 hrs lathe time,am burned out:)
Did a half of my usual workout on Saturday. 4km instead of 8 and very little time on the board...Well very little time propelling myself on the board. Instead I found a nice hill with a leaf and stick strewn bike path on it with a couple of corners. After walking up and kicking off the larger sticks, I skated down to the bottom, walked back to the top and skated down to the bottom, before repeating the cycle another half a dozen times.
On Sunday I undid all the good exercise by having a second serving of my birthday cheesecake (My two favourite treats mixed into one Cheesecake and Turkish delight). Tomorrows planned session on the bike probably still won't make up for that little sin, but at least it's only once a year :).
Mick
Guess what exercise I did today? Go on. Guess...
Slept in? ;)
Mick
Terrible run today. Stinking hot (in Gladstone). Planned 21k. Jogged a very slow 14k & conked out. Walked the last 7k. Took 3hr total.
Must be an English thing....;)
TODAY...Today I rode to my daughters school as a tagalong for my daughter, but that 2km ride just wasn't going to cut it with all the birthday cheesecake I had on the weekend, so I took the long way home and added a 10km cycle type sprint to the workout. I was knacker, drenched in sweat, and wondering what the hell I was thinking, but the high point was catching one of those lycra clad gits and shooting past the rider, scaring the be-jeesus out of them :).
Mick
PS I rewarded my efforts with just a little slice of birthday cheesecake...:gaah:
Did a little test of capacity today.
I set out with a goal of doing 13.1 miles in an hour and a half.
I managed it, more or less on the minute.
My pace was 4.15 pr. Km, a time that I'm not too happy with, but I should be able to shave off 15 secs pr. Km within the next month or so.
Birnando. I did 13.1 on Monday. Took me three hours..
Did a 5k walk (6.7 kph) at an incline of 15 today, some press ups, ab wheel thing and a plank. Are you noticing a theme here :)
Am starting to almost be ready for light jogging
Ed's right cheese chasing is a seriously dangerous event only undertaken by the most insanely dangerous people in the UK, Bouldering seems like a walk in the park Carl compared to this event.
