Yup I am in the same boat, and until I hit 30/ came to oz it didn't matter.
To be fair I used to bike to and from work everyday, in England. And since.I have been here I am MUCH more sedentary, but it is also a lot harder to shift kilos now.

I lost at least kilo today, pce of cake, have food poisoning, been running at both ends:(
I had the day off for the first time in a few weeks today.
So, I started the day with a good run.
Usually I run late at night, after the kids have gone to bed.
Wow, did that feel good to get a morning run in again.
I decided on a slow paced run.
After 19K I was very much ready for some eggs and bacon;)
I hit the weights again last Saturday and followed up the workout with a bi-monthly body scan.
I normally get the body scan just out of curiosity, but the gym was running a bulk-up campaign where the time frame was two months. Almost at the end of month two I got the scan.
The target of the campaign was to increase lean muscle by 500g (about a pound) in those two months.
I was surprised to see not only a muscle gain but even higher fat decreases. I put on 2.9kg of muscle and dropped 5.2% total body fat!
The workouts will definitely continue, but I will be taking a breather from the big supplements, and drop it down to lighter ones until February or so.
It is nice to see improvement.
A body scan seems like a great idea, I might see if I can get one done in Adelaide, we're a little backwards around here.
I got my 23 YO son a 16k kettlebell for his birthday yesterday. I had a go at swinging it around and found it's quite difficult. Having looked at a video of some kettlebell exercises I'm thinking it'd be a good thing to try...
Anyone use one?

A couple of my mates swear by their kettle bells. And I know they make for a good workout when they had me try them. I don't own any myself.
Today was recovery from yesterdays workout of bench press to exhaustion, Lat pull downs to exhaustion, Leg raises, Gluts and sit-ups and push-ups. Tomorrows planned workout is push-ups, sit-ups and skipping with a light weight workout to oil up the stiff muscles. Sunday gone was a gentle bike ride of 10kms, the day before that was a 35km ride.
After diet and exercise over the last month (mostly diet during that time. The exercise has only become regular during the last week) I'm now back on the scales (registering a reading), so now I will be able to track my progress and have a bit more incentive for having the visual read out as inspiration to go rather than using the towel rail to ease weight off the scales to get a reading and guess-timating my weight loss from there. No, I'm not proud that it was like that, but I'm making inroads to a healthy lifestyle now, and that is something I am proud to admit. :)

I have a 30lb kettle bell. It hasn't gotten a whole lot of use lately. I mainly use it for swings, which are great for the hips as well as some cardio if you want. Most of my exercise comes from mountain biking. With snow on the trails and temps in the teens, I haven't been doing much of that. I've been incredibly lazy the past month. When I do workout, I do everything at home using only that kettle bell and a pull up bar. It's amazing what you can do with just your bodyweight. There are some useful tools, such as the kettle bell, that allow you to do things body weight alone can't. For the most part, though, equipment is unnecessary. I highly suggest reading Convict Conditioning by Paul Wade if you're curious about bodyweight training.
+1 Boxing is one of the best (if not the best) workouts I've had. I'm an ex-crossfitter, powerlifter, etc. Now I fight my father-in-law twice a week:)
I had a bacon sandwich followed by extra bacon and then sat on my butt for a nice long while............:w
Well, it only took me 12 months of trying to find a way to get my shit together. The last full physical I was asked by the doctor about my kids and their ages. He told me I would be lucky to see the oldest one out of high school. I would most likely be dead in five years. I got four years left to finish my physical improvements. I've already made some serious inroads to that, just by seeing the scales register a weight.
You'd think so wouldn't you, but cycling is one of those things I find relatively easy. I push myself. The heart rate goes up the breathing is high, just over being able to hold a conversation comfortably, but I always feel I can do more. 40kms is the longest, mostly deserted bike path course, I've mapped out as a round trip. The paths are improved a bit more now and added to/extended in places, so I might be able to sort out a 50 or 60km round trip when I get time. A lot of the ride is through nature reserves and wetlands, which makes for a relaxing time of it. No traffic, and few people or other riders to slow you down. Finding the required hour and a half to do the 40 is the biggest issue...Perhaps I just need to get a bit faster. Maybe I need to ride a road bike instead of a mountain bike...Nah! I like the go anywhere aspect too much.
Carl, I will tell you now. You were the main kick in the pants I needed to get moving more. Thinking about what the Doc said didn't make me get up and move, it just put me in the pits of depression. Especially after doing what he said, "If you can't find time to exercise walk up and down the stairs for 20 minutes a day. Or walk around the clothes line." Good advice for the time poor, but mind numbingly boring exercise that was never really kept up. Seeing you live your life, doing your monkey boy routine, was the exercise clincher. The diet was entirely my own answer and has been in place a while. It's been, and is still, extremely strict. Not without it's rewards in weight loss and the occasional treat meals though.
I guess in short mate, I'm saying thank-you for starting this thread and just being you.

You can't go into a crossfit gym without touching one of 'em. I like them for American swings, heavy Russian swings, and snatches. These exercises are wonderful for overall bulk as well as explosiveness. Good posture is key on all of them because it's easy to cheat. I've also found that it takes some doing to go heavy enough. Once you get the movement down, push, push, push!
I went bouldering last night even though it was 41 degrees and the gym is a tin shed with no air conditioning.
I did some under-hanging work and some traversing. It was stupidly hot so I lasted only and hour and a half.
I went tonight, too, but it was closed "for my safety". On reflection, I think it was wise of them to close and keep idiots like em away, it was 42 today!
Today I had breakfast with the guys at work which was bacon, eggs, fried tomatoes and baked beans. Food throughout the day (I'm starting to be 'the guy that eats all day guy' in the office) was two tins of sardines, 1 chicken patty, two bananas and a vegetable juice, plus three cups of herbal tea and two coffees.
I haven't had a smoke in 11 days, so THAT stupid return to bad ways has been given its marching orders too...
And onto soft, cushiony mats at that. Nothing like hard, stony ground at all ;)
Mick
Just have to say that eating a dozen hot wings, drinking three beers, and smoking a cigar before working out was not my smartest idea.
Outdoor bouldering at Rocky Paddock campground yesterday and at The Pad today...
Sent 'Fat Neck' at The Pad and 'Parallel Cracks' at Rocky Paddock.

Schneider goes wild.
Good to see you getting out and about, all that indoorsness must have been making you look all pasty and pale, but obviously well muscled.
So are you on christmas holidays? Have you got out on the camping trip you wanted to do after you had dine the Reno?
I have been quite enjoying the countryside in England, but mainly from the car as we are always off to somewhere, we were intending to go to stonehenge on Saturday, but the weather was atrocious, we also found out that it was winter solstice so it would have been pretty cool to have been there then, but all the "Druids" and a guy who calls himself King Arthur pendragon would have been blocking the roads up nearby I would imagine.
It doesn't look like we will get back to stonehenge but we will go to see the westbury white horse or something similar before we leave.
Mick is going to be jealous and cross now.
Anyway with regards to exercise, I am definitely going to need to do some when I get back to australia, christmas seems to be consisting of cakes and chocolate etc already, and it's not even christmas yet.
Probably. After all they build carparks on top of the grave sites of medieaval kings and build roads that run right alongside ancient standing stones (Though they did build a fence around Stonehenge afterwards to keep the tourists out. And they didn't really know old king whatever his name was, Dick the 3rd I think it was, was buried right there where they were building a carpark either. ;)).

Did some indoor climbing today with the daughter, great upperbody workout.
Here recently whilst running, I have been getting pains in my right foot arch. Specifically, the pain is inwards and on the heel side of my arch apex. The pain really sets in a couple of hours after running and then no excess foot stresses for a couple of days before the pain subsides. I can rest a week, run just 1.5mi, and the pain still comes back. I have been making sure to stretch properly and this does not occur whatsoever for my left foot.
Could I have perhaps torn something? I'm hoping that it is just a "stretching" related thing. I don't want to go to the doctor as an MRI bill is not something I need at the moment.
Try stretching your calf and Achilles tendon. I stand on steps with my heel hanging over, and stretch for a 60 count with knees straight, then knees bent. Try two sets several times a day.
Well, yesterday I did some outdoor bouldering at The Pad and then went to the beach with my two sons. Today I hit the gym and did a workout (bench presses, incline dumb bell presses, lat pull downs, smith machine close grip bench presses, wide grip chinups, close grip chinups, leg presses, dips and cable crunches) and then afterwards went to the swimming pool with the younger son.
Yesterday I climbed on an empty stomach and afterwards had only one can of sardines and 1/2 a packet of nuts; that was all I ate all day. Today's workout was fueled by only a banana, and since I hadn't eaten hardly anything the day before I did feel a little light headed. After the workout I had a can of sardines (I eat a lot of sardines) and then four scrambled eggs (lots of butter) and the other 1/2 of the packet of nuts.
