Its hard to imagine now in today's NHL someone winning 5 cups in a row, winning 11 cups overall and doing it as the "lesser" brother of Maurice. RIP to a true legend.

I doubt you will ever see that again as those were gotten in his 20 year NHL career on one team, The Montreal Canadians. Really the stuff legends are made of.

Off topic but I was just thinking how much I miss Don Cherry from Hockey Night in Canada, when we get it down here. Is he on the air somewhere else or did he take a forced retirement for saying basically nothing at all?

He made some kind of comment about some foreigners not wearing the poppy or something like that... something insensitive which is so unlike Don Cherry right? I think he was considered bad juju after that. I still like the way the Canes ran with his bunch of jerks comment. That was a classic.

So one thing I love about hockey is how you just never know what's going to transpire. As a for instance the Lightning beat the #1 team in the league (Bruins) last night then turned around and lost to the #31 team in the league (Redwings) tonight. Ya just never know.

Personally, not sad at all to see the back side of him. I think his last comments were the straw that finally broke the camels back. He has never been known for saying nothing at all from my imo.

You gotta miss the suits though. He had the old lady curtain line. It was always interesting.

There is a funny Don Cherry story about when he was fired as the coach of the Bruins and Harry Sinden the GM. Gerry Cheevers was the goalie during a 5-2 loss (can’t remember to whom). Sinden asked Cheevers what happened and Gerry replied, “Roses are red, violets are blue, they scored 5, we scored 2”. Cherry laughed out loud. Sinden couldn’t fire Cheevers, so he fired Don instead.
