I use the palm of my hand. Fat part below pinky finger. I saw Matro Livi use this technique in a video I watched online. Works very well and have spent 2 weeks on vacation using this as my strop on the only straight razor I had with me. Worked wonderfully, but was a bit apprehensive at first to try it. Not bad at all once you get the hang of it.

My wife has seen her grandfather use the bottom of his dress shoe. I suppose it would work if they were clean lol.

Thanked: 41I use my ex wife's picture, it's abrasive on the photo side but smooth on the back... I just need to dodge the horns on the top 1/3 of the pic

My old leather coat, jeans, the occasional cow on the side of the road...

What I am wondering is, even if you bring your strop when traveling, where in the world would you hook it in a place not set up for it? Most strops I've seen have D rings or other types of fasteners designed to attach to a hook or other hardware. Not exactly conducive to attathing to the door knob of a hotel bathroom.

If you can't remember the strop, good luck remembering the string, lol. As for the pocket knife, I've carried one since I was old enough to know what one is.
But yeah, I thought about string, just wanted to know if that was pretty much what you guys do.
I don't do a lot of travel, so I was wondering about the logistics of it all.
But I'd have to carry string specifically for that purpose, because I always wear cowboy boots, even with a suit. So, no shoelaces for me.
I'm just wondering what the security guy thinks when he opens your luggage and finds a razor sharp SR and rope.Mike
