Hobby Lobby has all kinds of items for making linen/cotton strops, balsa wood etc.

No need to even cut up a pair of old jeans. Just use the ones you're wearing!

I often strop right on my thigh while wearing my jeans ... And it works great!

Go to a fabric store and buy a yard of canvas or poly canvas sailcloth in photo or strip of nylon strapping. Glue flap over D ring with iron on fusing tape.

From a yard you can make a boatload of strops that are very hard to cut or nick.

Either will perform as well as leather…until you learn to strop.

Has anyone tried polyester pin board material for a linen substitute, it is like compressed felt but thicker ?

Some shavers use the ball of their thumb: it is free and it 'll teach you not to nick it!

I was looking at some of this on the weekend at Bunning’s
and was thinking it looks a lot like a polyester version of my felt strop only thicker at about 10 mm so too stiff for a hanging strop probably
but it might work for a bench strop in place of felt with diamond or Chrox even??

Most any fabric will work, pin board should work fine, Craft felt and foam work well also, great for inexpensive test substrates. Cut with a papercutter.

Yup, that will work, as will most fabric, wood and paper. Foam Core poster board works very well, for a quick inexpensive solution.

Most of the powdered Chrome Oxide sold for razors is from Kremer Pigments, re-packaged.
