Oh, we're flying all over the place and poor Noobs doesn't know what hit him after his original post.

Noobs, my friend, it's all in fun. By all means, hang the strop. Mine hangs about waste high from a little hook attached just below the shave den sink.

Oh man - maybe we could/should start a straight razor movie/show tune names thread lol.

In the mean time, as to hanging vs paddle. There really is something romantic about a hanging strop. I think most guys would feel that way. But a good paddle strop is (in my opinion) as sexy as it is functional.

Using a hanging strop on a counter really is kind of anti climatic - but I think its functionality is HUGE for the noob. I wish I had done more of that when I started. It would have slowed me down and made me think more. It would have cost me a ton less in new strops lol!!

EDIT - lol Obie - you beat me too it .

And then there is the oddball - me. I turned my hanging strops into hanging bench strops.

Talk to me? What do you mean - and why? Did you glue some wood behind em? Photos? This intrigues me!

    Very cool!

Very simple. Cut a piece of pressed wood about 1/4'' thick 3' x 3' short of the strop length. Secure it between the leather and the linen with Velcro straps top and bottom. Don't have room in my bathroom for laying them flat. Hung them on "s" hooks on a towel bar.

    3' x 3' is a very big strop. Read 3" x 3" short of the length.

Well, It started in Amsterdam. It was 1992 I think. I was visiting Oma and was bored one night. I saw a picture of her on the wall. She cost 100 guilders sight unseen, but it seemed worth it. When all six feet of her came through the door in garters and lace, I knew I had made the right decision. When she lifted her arm to expose the paddle, a pang of both fear, and shear delight enveloped me... That paddle... oh that paddle...

Basically - that's how I came to find paddles sexy .
