    Default older Tony Miller strop

I have a Tony Miller 3" latigo strop. Best he made at the time. It has never been out of the package. I got this when he included a practice strop with the deal. I have used the practice for nearly two years and it has served me well. I am now considering getting the "good" strop out but like the new ones he makes better. I like the new handle and the fact that the leather is hanging seperate from the canvas. Would I be better to sell the unused strop, see if Tony will sell me the parts to upgrade the strop, or just nut up and deal with it.

I seriously doubt that the 'new and improved' strop will provide a better edge than the 'good' one that you have.

I would use the one you have if I were in your situation. While I like the look of the handles, I don't care for using them. Cannot say why, there is no real functional difference. I just prefer d-rings or the end of the strop.

Bust out that strop and use it! Enjoy the smooth, rich Latigo. Experiment with the cavas.

Tony at least used to sell upgrade kits if you wanted to add a handle to your strop.

I have both a starter strop and an heirloom strop with the seperate canvas. Having the cavas seperate is not necesssarily a good thing. I find that while I'm stropping on one strop, the other one is hanging down and swinging around a bit. Not a problem at all, but just giving you a perspective on possible give and takes of the strops.

Personally , I really like the integrated handle of the starter strop, as there is nothing to run into whilst stropping (aside from your hand........don't ask...).

Or go out and buy another one!

No it has the handle but the canvas is screwed to the leather at the handle as well as the hanging end. The canvas had shrunk slightly and needs to be streached out to match the leather. right now it leaves a little "slop" in the leather.

I would try unscrewing the canvas at the hand end and let it hang separately. If you don't like that then sell it and buy what you like.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
