I haven't seen any posts claiming dissatisfaction with any of the sharpening pastes. Most prefer a water based as against an oil based paste for allergic reactions, but I often mix neatsfoot oil with my water based paste on a piece of leather with no problems, as I wash the blade after sharpening with paste anyway. Lynn has had good results with TI paste, I have had good results with Amplex paste. I don't know what brand handamerican offers or if it is their own private label. Everyone seems to love handamerican products and service though.

    Default Pastes ...

I use both the custom, green hand american Paste on the HA flatbed strop, and tonight used the .5 micron TI paste on a hanging linen strop.

I think the TI diamond paste got the blade sharper. Either paste works; and I will be using the pastes for blade "tune-ups" in the future, and hopefully extend the time between honings.

    Chaaz,

I am confused about the TI paste reply. What paste is this?? There is Amplex diamond paste, 0.5 micron and other grits then there is the TI white paste in the plastic container, both from Classic Shaving. I didn't think the TI was diamond though and I actually think it is closer to .25 micron since Ray suggested I use it after the 0.5 Amplex stuff.

Is there a new paste I should have ? <g>. Right now I use, Amplex, 0.5, 1.0, 9.0 micron diamond compounds, the TI white paste, Dovo red and black pastes all on paddle strops except the red and black which are on an antique wood strop.

*****>> Ya got me, Tony! You are right! The TI paste is NOT a diamond paste - I just had a Brain Cramp, as usual, while typing!

BTW - I put the TI white paste (that comes in the plastic tube) on BOTH a linen strop, AND a rough (but rolled-out smoother) leather strop. I want to compare the effect of each. So far, I think the linen actually does it better, but I have only used the leather once so far.

I DO like the green Hand American .5 micron Green paste. I have it on one of their flatbed 'hones' (actually a strop) on one side of the leather bed.

Don't you just love all the shaving toys???

Whatever happened to those little crayon blocks of Puma pastes in the Red, Green and Blue that could only be shipped in cooler weather. Anyone seen any? Lynn

    Lynn,
I just got 2 of those gummy little devils. I have the red and the black and was under the impression they were Dovo items. Classic Shaving has them I think as well as the Knife Center. Tiny little block with the consistancy of warm butter once you open the foil.

They're sitting on the top shelf of my refrigerator door behind the candy sprinkels (for ice cream).
