Strop hanging/storage ideas?
Well, here's the story.
We just redid our master bathroom. To get the shower to the size I wanted, I had to "give" some on the other side, where the shaving stuff is stored (that in active rotation.) We redid the area where my strop would hang.
So, it is all done. We did quite well. The shower is a work of art. The new vanity is fantastic. We were only 225% over budget. The light is great for shaving.
BUT....there is no place for a strop hanging ring that wouldn't look terrible. Even I admit that. I would, however, hang it there anyway. My dear wife, however, politely requested that I do not hang a strop in the bathroom, nor put a hook into the light colored wall. And by politely requested, I mean of course that she said that my facial hair would not be the last thing cut off by my razor today if I put a hook into the new wall.
SSSSOOOOOOO....the point? 1) Is it bad to keep my strop bent (into roughly a semi circle...not tight at all) over night ever night? and 2) Besides looping something over a faucet to snap the strop to to pull on every morning...what else do guys do that don't have a strop hook? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks, as always!

Thanked: 4942How about leaving it hang on the back of the door knob???
No place to screw in a pretty coffee cup hook under the vanity counter???
....... My wife kicked me out of her/our bathroom and now I have the guest bathroom all to myself.

Thanks Lynn,
No, the counter is pretty flush to the cabinets. My old bathroom (in the hallway outside the master bedroom) is now the baby's bathroom. I got kicked out of there when the baby was born.
I've got to find a way to maybe install a quickly removable/replaceable hook.
So, is that SRD latigo strop safe in the drawer?
So long as the strop is in a very loose roll. I leave all my extras in the batroom cabinet laying flat.

I just clip a little carabiner (those little metal clips climbers use) on the towel rack and hang my strop from there. It works well, is at a good height, and is sturdy. I'm sure if you had a little carabiner type clip you could find something to clip in on in the bathroom....maybe even on a drawer handle??
And if you're going to be taking in out of the bathroom at night I would just lay it on a counter or something flat. Keeping it a slightly bent, like in a semi-circle, isn't likely going to do any harm at all, but I'm a little OCD so it would bug me if it wasn't kept flat!
If all else fails, just do what Lynn did, take over the guest bathroom!

DUH! Why didn't I think of that???
Funny thing is, I have been a climber for 21 years (well, lately I've been more of a take care of a baby, get out of shape and go to work kinda guy). I have a **few** old 'biners around.
That's exactly what I am going to do.
Thanks guys!

I ship my strops with a leather thong so that it can either hung on a door knob or looped around a towel rack. I too have no realistic place to hang a strop ring without incurring the wrath of SWMBO, so I used a leather thong to wrap around a towel rack through a large snap ring. It works great.

Do you have a walk in closet? I have one with the white metal shelving, I hang mine with a carabiner to one of the mid level shelves, it works great, it hangs out of the way, and my fiancee doesn't see it. She just see's Str8 razors magically reproducing almost overnight on the counter....

I use a zip tie, A.K.A. cable tie. I leave the loop large enough that I can hook it over my door knob which is an L shaped one. I hook the strop to the zip tie. I like the height of the door knob as it is roughly the same as that of one hooked to a barber's chair. A good angle to strop I think.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I leave mine in a loose roll in the cabinet. As I also have no place to leave my strop, I used a small carabiner to go through the hole at the top of my strop; made a small loop of rope which I attached to the carabiner. I then loop the rope around the door knob (took me a few tries to tie the best size rope loop), pull taunt, and go to work.
