    Default Dovo White Paste...everyday?

Does anyone use the Dovo White on their Canvas strop. If so do you use it every time you shave?

I just posted yesterday that there are a lack of threads about this. I believe it was Seraphim that was advocating the Dovo white (can't remember the thread off the top of my head). Hopefully he'll see this and respond.

I don't use white, but I do use either black & red Dovo, or .25 diamond paste on my strops.

I never used to paste before every shave, but lately I only do about three or four laps on any of these pastes prior to stropping. It seems to be working out just fine. It's so little that I don't think I'm increasing my time between honing by very much.

I believe the Dovo strops come with the fabric side already impregnated with their white paste. So it would seem to be intended for daily use.

I used my Dovo strop daily for many months and it got the job done. When I washed out the factory paste it didn't work nearly as well. Cotton webbing also seems to benefit from some sort of mild polish such as the Dovo white paste or some other mild polishing agent, and my vintage linen strops all have some sort of white substance on them that quickly washes away with a toothbrush, soap, and water, so it seems possible that even linen benefits from some assistance. The trick to picking something to put on your daily linen is to make sure it is mild enough that it doesn't wear out the blade prematurely, and doesn't make the edge harsh the way 0.5 micron diamond can, or even make it duller like chrome oxide is sometimes reported to do. The Dovo white paste does a good job at this. I've been playing around with the white polishing bar from Harbor Freight and like the way it works - it's slow enough that I need about 10 laps to keep the razor sharp, but fast enough that I can refresh a dull edge in a hundred. I also want to pick up some of the Classic white lapping paste to see how it performs in this role - it sounds like it might work, but the devil's in the details.

    sure that would be great.

I guess what I am asking is if it will eventually ruin my edge to where i cant bring it back on my 12k touchup stone and will have to go to a lower stone and reset the bevel

    or

if it is just really really mild polish that helps and in no way harms the edge.

How many laps do you guys that use the white paste do before you go to leather before each shave.

answer to your question eventually you will need to go lower grit and set bevel and hone blade. Now how long time no one know.
i do approximately 10-15 passes no more then that then i clean edge of the blade and move leather side of the strop. will post picture a little late
    hope this helps.

I had one question about the white paste.

After using the linen side with white paste do you have to wipe the blade before using the leather side?

You know, I never used it, but I'd say yes. I know with the Cro2 for instance, if you don't, it'll get all over the strop....

I never have. I do with more aggressive abrasives like chrome oxide, but chalk is so mild and it wipes away easily with a damp cloth.
